Libraiy Circulation KeaclieaS 2,000,000; Gain Is 19 Per Cent The fifty -eighth annual report of the Portland Libra-ry association for the year ending October 31. 1921, has Just been; published, containing the reports of the president, treasurer, committee on finance, and the librarian. The report of Miss Anno Mulheron. librarian, fills the greater part of the pamphlet According to it, tho year marked the attainment of the two million mark in circulation, with a gain of 8J6, 830, j or 19 per cent over the preceding year;. This circulation bad a wearing effect upon the books, with no increased funds to replace them. The report goes in detail upon the use of the library as a social center. Its Americanization work, and the special fields of the circulation, reference, mu nicipal reference, feuatoesa-tecnnloal. school, children's branch, periodical, or der and catalog departments, the bindery and the trading class. One of. the most interesting bits of publicity was a series ox artaoes which was published in The Oregon Journal's corner called, "Know Tour Portland." These articles, about 200 words in length. on the work of the different depart ments and the different activities and phases of the library's wjrk, ran for a month and called forth a great deal of favorable comment and interest tion of that institution.
