BRITISH STEAMER IS CHARTERED BY Kerr-Gifford & Co. announce the J charter of the British steamship City of Vancouver to load a full cargo of wheat from Portland to the United Kingdom for orders.; The vessel will carry 7500 long tons and will be due in the river for loading the last of the present week. . The city of Vancouver Is a new steamship and is on her second 'voyage. She wai built at Vancouver. B. . C last year , and measures ud in the 8800 dw. class --and in Lloyd's as 3525 net ; tons. The training- steamship Hollywood of i the sea ervice bureau will be turned over-to the division of operations, U. S. H. H,, on the arrival of Captain J. Howarrl Payne, Coast director of .the recruiting service at San Francisco, to morrow. The Hollywood will' be turned over to the Matson Navigation company for freight operations between Coast ports and Honolulu. Louring the past year the1 Hollywood has been, used as a training ship for the sea service bureau, but with the number of efficient officers and sea men - now odt of berths the training activities are practically at an end. In 1317 only 10 per cent of the men on deck were American. PORTLAND, OREGON LOCAL FIRMS PUT Announcement is today made of two securities which will interest lo cal investors considerably- because ot the unusual interest yield pre sented and because the securities of fered are of one of Portland's largest industrial companies, and the other, one of . the lareest local public utilir ty companies, namely, the Portland Flouring Mills company and the Portland Cias & Coke company","; Blyth, Witter & Co., of which Colon Livingston is the Portland manager, and the Security Savings & Trust Co. are presenting: : an issue of $3,000,000 Portland Flouring Mills company; first mortgage 8 - per cent 15-year sinking fund gold bonds at par to yield 8 per cent . "The purpose of the loan," states Max Houser, president of the, cereal company, "is to construct a new plant and to furnish more capital with which to conduct the flour company's busi ness.
