This gives to Portland consumers an all-the-year-round tomato service, be cause at no time had the market here been without offerings to date. First supplies usually come from Mex ico, i When that season is well on, Flor ida begins to make shipments, then Mis sissippi starts and then Te;: Then the Imperial valley of California begins its season's work, which is follawed by more northern sections of that state, to be quickly followed by White Salmon and The Dalles. A storm of pro test has been raised afsimt the iasage of an ordinance by the: city council, providing for the control- of millt, butter and dairy products to b sold ih Moscow. The ordinance is said to be the most drastic everi pabsed in a com munity of this kind and will practically pro hibit the sale of milk, cream or other dniry , n 4 11 IU.r.mifl. dent of the Chamber of Commerce, in a rigor-! ons protest on behalf of the citizens and the dairymen and the farmers,; has called attention to the provisions of the Ordinance and asked the citizens to unite in protesting against its enforcement and to ask its repeal. No one, outside of the members of Hie council and a very few others, knew of the contemplated pass age of the ordinance nntii it was published in the official paper. Then1 the protest began to b" heard. Mr. Overrnith says, in iart: "Hcection 13 of this 'ordinance practically prohibits any iierson owning a cow in the city of ilftscow from selling j milk. This section would prevent any milk oif cream being sold in the ity of Moscow by farmers or other persona unless they had a separate milkhouse which was not used for any other purpose than the care, of milk." ' Special cables come from Australia telling- of the preatest rain and wind storm the grain sections of that commonwealth have known for perhaps 60 years. Re ports indicate that damage to the crop is certain. Both Australian and Argentine advices of late have indicated damage to the wheat crop and while there is the same old story to tell of bull and bear markets mingling in the option trade, still the general undertone of the market con tinues to improve. In the Chicago option market the start of the Monday trade showed a price loss, but an ad vance followed this bearish movement early in the day.
