AS STRIKE ENDS Br Broadan "Wall New Tork, Oct. 29. Professional bear traders met with considerable success in the stock market Thurs day, and for a time succeeded in weakening prices to the extent where losses ranged from 1 to 3 point In standard Issues and from 2 to 6 points in specialties. The bearish contingent was aided by the continuance of a high rate for all money and cables from London, which stated early in the day that the outlook for a settlement of the coal strike was uncertain, v Trading was on a much heavier scale than on any previous session during the week and it was not until late In the afternoon that the market began to show resistance to the persistent; offerings. Early in the afternoon cablegrams stated that the British coal strike had been settled subject to a vote by ballot by the miners. Practically no attention was paid to this news, and It was not until supporting orders, especially in Steel common, appeared that the general list manifested any evidence of resiliency. In the rally which occurred in the last hour much of the early loss was recov ered, but final quotations left nearly all Issues showing net losses. The close of trading came in the midst of the rally. The most important development of Thursday from the viewpoint of the In vestor was the publication of a number of railroad reports giving the results of operation for September, which is the first full month under which the com mon carriers were operated at the in creased freight rates.
