HOMING PIGEON TO Go o mi ROM LOS ANGELES w lit Seeking the !on; distance carrier pigeon flight record of the Pacific coast, a sleek hlrd wljl be- reJeaned at Low Angeles today or Tuesday ' and will head, according to the pre diction!; of its owners, for the homo ' loft in Portland. The distance is 1 40O milea, through several varieties of climate and over every type of country, but the bird is expected to be cooing about thes R. fi. v Hamlll cotes near Kelly Butte within three days after Its release. The bird Is owned by Hamlll and is of a strain " famous for long-distance flying, though this particular bird has flown no great- Ver distance than from Seattle to Port land. Judge George W. Masterson of Ixs Angeles, In Portland last week, took . the bird from Oeorgo L. Routledge, and ; when it has rested after the trip south. Masterson, a prominent Southern Cali fornia poultry expert, will wiro to 'Koutledgp. Late in the week the bird was checked and photographed by The Journal. At Los Angeles a message , will be attached to Its leg, its home ad dress will be printed on its feathers and It will be checked out of the of fice of the Jaib Angeles Times. Its ar rival here will be checked, too. On the coast homer pigeon fanciers have never attempted to release : their birds for such extended flights, al though elsewhere ancestors of this same bird have records of from 1500 to 20rt0 miles of flying. One of Its kind has flown from Mexico to Chicago. In view of the fact that It Is a mis demeanor to shoot homing pigeons, the flight of the Portland bird is expected to be largely protected by law. The instinct of the Hamlll bird was proved some time ago, when, without . previous tests of its Instinct for return ing to the home loft. It was taken to Seattle and released. It returned with out delay to the home loft. .Win ' I'M- $ SI 1 1 a i imi i?& niininrr-afivn r. &e Ann? You wouldn't do such a thing, would you? When you pay all those costs for picking, curing, transportation, etc. (which arc a big part of the price of tea) you want real tea, with its full flavor and rest ful invigoration.
