Strenuous efforts are belnj put forth
by the young people's societies of all
denominations to collect a car of cloth

the unfortunate people of Armenia,
Plans for Sunday call for the literal
"bombardment" of Portland's churches
by a volley of llva young persons who
will bring the appeal to various con
gregations in minuteman style. This
attack will be repeated again next Sua
day. The young people have also asked
civic, fraternal, business and social or
ganizations to assist them.
The Baptist Young People's associa
tion. Christian Endeavor and Epworth
leagues of Portland have set out to
collect a car of clothing on October (,
nave it properir baled and shipped di
rect to Armenia. They also propose to
pay the freight to New York city. In
order to keep the local fund from being
depleted. Members ef the Retail Groc
ers' association have agreed to assist the
young people by collecting bundles from
various homes, just as they did last
year. Certain churches are to be used
as collecting stations.
Similar work has been completed In
Kastern states and clothing Is now on
the way to Aremenia, according to J. J.
Hansaker, state director. Oregon's car
should arrive when this is exhausted.
Advices Just received indicate clothing
is necessary from a sanitary standpoint,
as well as for comfort, as It is difficult
to stop spread of the plague when refu
gees are clothed in garments which have
not been changed for months.

by others and a generous donation to
the fund was received. Dr. Mlnard in
