' f i. : a : i Wilsonville Ferry Is Now Idle Again; Ferryman Strikes' ... ( ' ...... i ; . Wilsonville, Aug. 14. The fWilsonville ferry is out of commission again,- occa sioned by the falure of the county court of Clackamas county to provide a raise In wages for the ferryman,1 E. R. KJ1 gallon, who has-been operating.it for th last year. Kilgallon started in at about $60 a month and, finding this was insufficient for- a living, asked for a raise to 175. The court came back with a raise to S 70. but this did' not satisfy and the 1 ferryman threatened to retire, at once and did shut the ferry down for a! day, or two last week. He was pre vailed upon to resume by the county judge, who, according to Kilgallon, as sured the ferryman that he would have the county commissioners take up the matter at once. This was a week ago and, hearing nothing from them Tues day, Kilgallon announced that he was quitting that night, j (Wilsonville people say the ferry, since being taken over by the county about a! year ago, has been in operation only about ' two-thirds of the time, having been shut down for: one reason or an other while, under private ownership it was In operation practically every day Of the year for years previously.: ...; ,'.p, a 1 " NewTavirig and I Bridge Work Is j Eeady for Traffic , JVancoqver, Wash;, i Aug. 14. The pav ing work onthe Fifth street road has been completed and' the road' was re opened to traffic Friday. This road, which has been built by the government, will connect with Fifth street and the North Bank highway to Camas and Washougal. The North Bank highway will be completed not later than October lj It was announced today.. (The county road paving was finished yesterday, with the completion of the Hasel Dell-Fellda road. This road must be used as a detour from the Pacific highway road to Felida, which is now being paved. i i The Tale-Yacolt ' bridge, which - has been under pspcess ! of construction for some time, was also completed this week. ;A celebration in honor of the completion is being arranged by the Yacolt, Am boy and Yale, people and . will be held during the early part of September.
