" The- fact that Europe has not been a liberal buyer re cently and that its stocks are getting down to bedrock, gives the impression that the export movement must soon be got well under way. There was a firmer tone and higher " prices for wheat at the start of the eastern trade and late advances here indicate that the buyers are alert to the possibilities of a- record-breaking export call. Modern Miller of Chicago, one of the big cereal authorities of the world, says: "The market degression ' promoted in the interests of wheat exporters got a jolt this week. Artificial maneuvering Is not wholesome and is usually to the advantage of few and to the disadvantage of many. Quite naturally the market sags under the weight of the winter wheat and the spring wheat crops. It- is well that all the water be squeesed out of price inflation before the new crop begins to move- It is the safest basis for merchandising and avoids losses. But when this natural depression is coupled with propaganda, the trade should be Cn its guard. When all turn bears, it is time to pause and reflect as to the results of an over sold market. It is a queer situation British official sources warning that prices of wheat and other cereals will be higher and American exporters who sell Britain cereals openly sdvis- ing our domestic trade that prices will be lower. The buyer a bull; the seller a bear doesn't this look a bit queer! - No doubt wheat exporters are interented ia depressing prices for a basis to accumulate. By encouraging the hope of lower prices and inducing millers to wsit, and flour buyers to let their wsrehouses empty, the full weight of the crop is fejt But there must be an end to this! Think it overt "It is unfortunate that hedging offers such doubtful protection. We would consider this a dangerous hedging market and hedging should be carefully considered.
