A second bulce followed reporta that big export business was under wsy at the seaboard, with .2,000.000 bushels worked yesterday and today. Continued favorable weather and opu nitntm crap reports turned the balance, however, sending the market to an irregular cloae. Oats trade was -not large and prices advanced readily in sympathy with wheat and corn and on buying by shorts and commission houses. Bids from packers gave provisions a stronger start and pricea moved higher as the packers continued to buy. mainly lard, supposedly against sales of the cash. i : ,; - Chicago. July 28, H. N. S.) P.V-The Eve ning Sun financial review today said: Following yesterday's comparatively active.. session, the stock market settled back on its oars today ana permitted values to seek the line of least resistance in adjusting: themselves to the technical position brought about by the broad de cline and subsequent partial rally. The result waa a decidedly mixed movement from the beginning. , Buying and selling were alike slow. - - The sugar Issues were strong wfth one or two exceptions and oils resisted pres sure rather better than most of the list. The motors did not -do much either way, although General Motors continued its recovery from the Tuesday drive against it and Pierce-Arrow was in good form likewise. The industrial list was unset tled again in mid-afternoon, but soon steadied and proceeded forward after a rashJpn. following the call money rate to 7 percent, - -, . . CANNERIES FORCE rnnironnu tftllll RASPB LOUUWh Market . for raspberries was broken again during the day. The retail grocers were closed, the picking waa greater and the canneries had cut their buying price. Sales of raspberries by ; growers were gen erally at $2.25 2.50 during the morning, al though the Japanese association was asking $3. - The canneries here reduced their baying price of raspberries from 25c to 16c s pound, which means $2.40 a" erate for the average received along . the street although two additional pounds per crate can be put in the cannery packajtea, which would make the price $2.70. However, few of Lb 18 pound crates are received in the wholesale trade, most of fheto going from 16 to 17 pounds. While the Jsw specifies that a crate of ber ries shall contain so much fruit, there is prac tically no protection to the consumer under pres ent conditions. Announcement of such a definition, it is said, would simplify the operation of , the bank policy and insure the proper disbursement pf credit resources as sought by the federal reserve board re cently in calling the attention of the banks to the dangerous growth of infla tion and speculation. . So different are conditions in each district? bankers say, that the defini tion oY an essential loan in one district would be impossible of observam-e in an-' other district. Because of this con dition, it will be neewry for tiita fed eral reserve bank officials of chcH dis trict to determine whal clasMei of In tfustries are necessary to business mul Industrial life In that particular section and distribute the credit resources of the banks accordingly.. .
