True bills were returned against one police official, an ex -convict and six "men connected with second hand stores. , All are charged separately with being act ively connected with a ring "dealing in, disposing of. baying, selling and having v n their possession altered War Savings gtampa" i bench warrants are Police Inspector Robert La Salle, Fred Peterson, alias Swede Whitey, ex-convict; and William Brenner. 45 North 8ixth- street ; Dave " Stein, 29 North Sixth street;- W." E. Smith, a clerk for Stein; Angelo i Rossi, S West Park street, and Morris Silver man. Bail was set for $2500 each. Jake Silverman, the only one not' arrested, is at liberty under 12000 commislsoner bond. Morris Silverman ' surrendered himself Friday mornings i s. On March S, Fred Peterson and other yeggmen. . whose names the government is keeping secret, are sad to have robbed the Scio State bank. Among other things thevi took about $15,000 worth of War Savings Stamps, according to Assistant United States Attorney John C. .Veatch, all of which were reg istered. Th stamps were ; brought to Portland and removed from the certifi cates. . By means of acid and ' boiling watef the government registration num bers were removed without disturbing any other printing. After i the stamps were altered they are said to have been turned over To Angelo Rosa I.. Rossi la said to have secured blank certificate sheets; from the government 1 and to have attached the Stamps, Rossi i ; is then said to have turned the stamps over to William Brenner and Dave Stein. . Jake Silverman is indicted for lumdUng stamps said to. have, been stolen from the Harrisburg bank. ; Last November 2 the First National bank of Harrisburg . waa entered by burglars and $3250 . in liberty bond and $725 in War Savings Stamps stolen.. The ' Cracksmen ; blew open the outer and inner doors of the vault which contained both safe and t safety deposit boxes.
