MINIS COMMITS Alexander Mclnnis, prominent In Portland a a contractor, commit ted suicide in his home at 336 Grand avenue north, Thursday Afternoon, by locking himself in a bathroom and turning on the gas. . Mclnnis was a member of the firm ""Of Mclnnis & Reed, which construct ed the Multnomah club building:, the Buchanan building and other struc tures here. About 11 o'clock Thursday morning. Mrs. Mclnnis went downtown, ' while Mclnnis was putting wood into the base ment. When she returned, ' about 3 o'clock, she found no one around the house, and smelled. gas when she entered. She found Mclnnis In the bathroom dead, with the gas turned on. He left no communications. - -Mclnnis 'underwent an operation for tumor about four year ago, from which he never completely recovered. He was despondent over this and recent heavy financial losses. Mclnnis was 68 years old. and is sur vived by a wife. Esther Mclnnis, and a son and daughter. Meredith Indorses Forest Protection ; Week in Oregon Appreciation of Governor Olcott's designation of the present forest pro tection week in Oregon has been ex pressed by Secretary of Agriculture Meredith in a letter of hearty Indorse ment to the governor. . "The matter T of making adequate provision for the safeguarding and re newal of our forests is of vital impor tance: to the nation." said Meredith. Bjorkland, , Who Shot Herself, - Reported Improved Chances are favorable for the re covery of Mrs. FTankie BJorklund of 676 Thurman street, who shot herself last Friday in her apartments, accord ing to a report from St. Vincents hos pital. At the same time the woman was shot her husband was fatally wounded. The coroner's Jury failed to report on the responsibility for the death of the husband. August BJork lund.
