(Jeorges By Jack Velock TVEW YORK, May 24. -(I. N. S.) Trie signing of Georges Carpen tler and Bat Levinsky for a bout for the world's heavyweight champion ship was hatled with approval by boxing fans throughout the country today. Despite repeated assurance that he came here to fight to meet Jack Iemp sey If ponslblev many American boxing fans had begun to believe that Carpen tler would eventually return to France without drawing on the gloves In a pro fessional contest on this side of the pond. So his matching with Levinsky was welcome new a Levinsky, recognised as America's light heavyweight champion, should should- prove a worthy opponent for the Frenchman. Levinsky combines speed and cleverness with quite a little punch, tng ability and though he has been In the ring for a number of years and has always ranked as one of this country's busiest boxers, he Is a good trial horse for Georges. As - Carpentler Is holder of both the heavy and lightweight titles In Europe his match with Levinsky will be a title affair and If he hopes to meet Jack Dempsey he must defeat the battler a task that none of the American heavy wslghts aside from Jack Dempney has been able to perform decisively. The Levinsky-Carpentler baftle will be staged by Jack Curley on or before July 28. It will be either forl2nr13 rounds, with or without a derision, de pending on where It Is held. Curley will name a site four weeks in advance of the bout and It is probable that New York will land the plum, for favorable action on the Walker boxing bill by Oovernor Smith Is expected within a few days.
