PUBLIC SCHOOLS' EXHIBITS OFFER OBJECT LESSONS In an ef fori to bring, to the atten tion of every person In Portland some of the work done in the public schools, those subjects that can best be visualized will form the basis of a unique "live" exhibit, which opens today in the windows of 30 leading downtown stores and continue until Saturday evening-. -The exhibit, arranged under supervi sion of Miss Harriet Thayer and Miss Edith Darling; and several supervisors pf departments, represent merely the etas room work rather than a . dlaplay for exhibition purposes. . EXHIBITS ABE PLACED . . The Meier A Frank company has given' two- windows, in " one of which will be demonstrations of cooking and sewing. Electriuffranges are - being 'in stalled, also kitchen cabinets., tables, to., and the work - of preparing foodstuffs will be done in the windows by the students, the girls writing their recipes on a blackboard. .' ' The classes - in sewing win cut, fit and make garmens in the' window -work rooms. In a second window will be a demonstration of the work carried on at the A. L. Mills open air school. Pupils of . the technical department of the Washington high 1 school will demonstrate mechanical drawing in the window of the J. K. GUI company. A writing -demonstration will be held; at Woodward & Clarke's. The elementary sewing classes will work In the win dows of Olds, Wortman A- King. The Benson Polytechnic school will have a display and ' demonstration from its shops in the windows of Jennlng A Son. The millinery department of the Girls' Polytechnic school will make hats in the window of the -United Ap parel company. Card writing and car tooning will be shown at .the C J. Mathls store.' v DIVERSITY IS SEEN Physical and recreational work will be given at Sherman Clay & Co." The art department will be in Feldenhei mer'a window and in Aronson's window will be shown arts and crafts Jewelry. A window In the Lion Clothing com pany will be fitted up like a typical of fice for pupils of the . Commercial high school. At Qadsby Je Son will be a cooking demonstration ' and in another pupils from the school for the blind will be at work. At Powers', Kilham's and Ed wards' will be demonstrated work of the high schools. :Tbe Girls' Polytech nic ischool will have a display at Si mon's. Lipman-Wolfe, Wonder Millin ery icompany and at the Eastern Out fitting company. Boys and girls club work will be demonstrated in the Hon- eyman : window." Here, too, will be a demonstration of camp cookery. Other windows to be used are Roberts', Shan ahan's. Greenfield Shoe company.
