Stubbe, managing head of the concern since Its oper ations commenced, has resigned. Stubbe'a resignation became effective March 15, but he held over at the re quest of the director until next Monday, that Dawson, who left San Francisco . . . .... i.i. ...11. 'He has been with Sudden & Chrlstensen for a number of years and only recently returned to San Francisco from New York after establishing a New York office. He was born and raised in Southern California and started his steamship experience with Sudden & Chrlstensen. During the war he was loaned to the operating division- of the hipping hoard, and a few months ago renewed his connections with the old company. Kennedy, agent for the division of operations. United. States shipping board, announced today that the steam ers West Nivaria and West Keats, now building at San Pedro for the Emerg ency Fleet corporation,' had been pert manently assigned to the Columbia Pacific Shipping company for operation on its North China line. The first one Is expected about April 15 and the other on April 30. The steamer Angelus, constructed at San Pedro for the government, was turned over to the operating company today and is expected to leave not later than Sunday for the Columbia river. The Angelus will be the first of the Columbia-Pacific's fleet in the North China service and will carry a cargo of lumber for three Columbia river ship pers to Shanghai and Taku Bar. The government has decided to give this line four vessels, but the fourth one, which is also Delievea to De under construction at San Pedro, has not been named. The Columbia-Pacific company an nounced that Captain C. H. Bruun has been named master of the wooden steam er Boynton, constructed at the Coast Shipbuilding yards, and now being com pleted at the drydock. Loading for the Boynton has not yet been assigned. TWO RIVER STEAMERS ARE WITHDRAWN FOR REPAIRS To go on the marine ways for repairs, the river steamers J. N. Teal of the Northwestern Transportation company and the Oeorgie Burton of the Willam ette Navigation company were taken from service Friday. The Teal, which runs to The Dalles, will be lifted at the Reed Engineering Works, Vancouver, and the Burton at the Portland Shlp- balldlnz company. Within two weeks the boat will be restored to service. The passenger steamer Olympian takes the Teal's place In the upper river run, lefiving Taylor street dock at 7 o'clock Sunday morning. Work on the rudder stock prevented the Olympian from making the run today. A schedule on alternate days will be maintained, but In the summer months will complete the run dally. The Northwestern Trans portatlon company's lower river passen ger steamer Astoria Is also out for repairs, but will be restored to service Tuesday, the operators say. Two Youtlis Arrested Irving White, aged 17, 1443 Fourth street, Hlllshoro, and William Brown aged 16, residing at 340 Williams ave nue, were arrested at Second and Mor rison streets Friday night by O. S Smith. 432 Chamber of Commerce building, and taken to police headquar ters. Smith and his wife watched the two boys as they are alleged to have accosted Florence Cummings, aged ' 12, of 1724 East Fifteenth street, and Sarah Mackle, aged 13, of 609 Mllwaukie ave nue. - when' Lieutenant Van Overn heard the complaints of Hhe girls be or dered Patrolman O'Halloran to take the boys to the juvenile ward at the county Jail. The boys are charged with disorderly conduct. FOtTR JAPANESE STEAMERS SCHEDULED FOR LCMBEB With announcement -Friday that two Japanese tramp steamers have been fixed for loading lumber here during April vand May for the Orient, by the Pacific Export Lumber company, four Nipponese lumber carriers are -now scheduled for this port in the next few weeks. The other two are coming under the operation of A.- Q. Andersen & Co. Names or these tramps have not yet been furnished the charters, but the vessels are not to be confused as com ing for the same firms, according to the Pacific Export Lumber company, as In each case the operators have secured fuH cargoes for both vessels. Dant. A Russell will have the Jap steamer Tomiura Maru for North China. The vessel is due before the end of March. The Chinese Hwah Jan has also been chartered by Dant k Russell. W.. tbenee MUNICIPAL GttAIX ELEVATOR IS JfEARLY COMPLETED Indications that the municipal grain elevator at terminal No. 4 is nearlng completion were made apparent Friday when initial tests of machinery were satisfactorily made In the operating house. Grain could be handled now. if necessary, according to Secretary G. B. Hegardt of the dock commission, but two weeks are necessary to have the plant completely ready for business. The crew at the terminal is now prin cipally engaged in cleaning up refuse and making the grounds ready for the many visitors soon expected. An at tractive scheme of landscape gardening is to Be carried out at the plant. Kel logg street, from thend of the car line to the plant and Jersey street, through St. Johns, are to be repaired by the county and city respectively for auto mobile traffic.
