, He Insists that Hamby is not his right
name, but declared that he would go to

the secret of his life. He is only 26
. years old.
- Hamby coolly told the prison offi
cials that he had planned to kill hlm-
;self, but had decided to "commit legal
.' suicide Instead."
' "You treated me squarely, warden,
and were such a good fellow that I
' decided to let the law take its course,"
aid the condemned man.
' During the last few days In the death
r house Hamby has been amusing himself
'.with an oulja -board and a phonograph.
Ha was an inveterate cigarette smoker,
but when his supply of tobacco was ex
hausted he refused to slitn the name
"Hamby" to an order on his small sup
ply to buy more.
ARRESTED AT TACOMA
Hamby was arrested in Tacoma,
- Wash., and brought to Brooklyn in
' June, 1919. He made a confession to
'the King county district attorney saying
he had committed robberies "in every
country of consequence on the face of
the globe, but had never tackled a Job
tmlaaa there were five flirures in It."
; He was placed on trial in Brooklyn
: on June 23. waivei all aerense ana was
convicted, three days later.
The only request Hamby made to the
' court was that the certificate of his
death be made to read "Jay B. Allen"
Instead of Gordon Fawcett Hamby.
Medical men who have examined
Hamby declare that he is sane.

missioner Daniel C. Roper announced
today that banks and trust companies
throughout the United States had given
such assurances of cooperation that he
looked for 100 per cent results in the
next Income tax drive.
- Revenue field deputies already have
- begun the task of supplying information
'and aid to the vast number of persons
who must file returns. Mr. Roper said
the efforts of field men would be sup
plemented greatly by banks volunteer-
