An energetic crusade against the extravagant indecencies of the French fash tons baa been taken ap by more than two score Influential re ligions and social organizations of Paris, comprising more than 1,800,000 members. A petition, signed by thou sands of leading French women, hma been sent to dressmakers and department stores through out France. It says in part: "Yon are requested in the in terest of international honor and decency not to sell any gar ments calculated to infringe on the laws of morality; to sup press all vulgar styles and neg ligee gowns, and to replace in decent showlness by simplicity and grace ---the only tre ele mcntXbf elegance." (Via Paris. France, Jan. 20. Vienna is practically nothing can be bought with them.;, A Csech bought a suit,of clothes here, paying in, opal, butter and sugar, and the tailor was highly pleased. ' The low exchange has caused a buying cam paign to which the Vienna shopkeepers respond by hiding the -best articles inj storerooms , to a wan- ewer tunes. Austria outside the capital surely has nearly enough food plenty of wood, some coal, good factories and skilled workmen. The truth Is that Austria as a country is at war with Vienna, the feeling of hostility beginning with the debacle of November. 1918. The revolu tion was caused rather by the war lead' era abandoning their posts than by gen uine political conversion. The provinces of Salzburg-, Tyrol. Styrla. Carinthia, Vorarlberg and Upper Austria under (strong leadership set up almost separate governments, each developing a griev ance against Lower Austria and Vienna. The " indications are that the sold aternst (soldiers' council), the arbeiter rat (workers' council) and the coalition government will soon disappear and per haps not without violence.
