III ANNUAL OH P L ATTENDANCE FREE Men Whose Disability Is Result - of War Service Cared for by United States Government. Any ex-service man who needs medical or surgical treatment be cause of illness or Injury contracted in the army or navy, can hereafter enter an army hospital, public health service hospital, or local civilian in stitution or sanatorium, and have alt his expenses paid by the govern ment. Few soldiers or sailors seem to be aware of this privilege", which is theirs for the asking, and the war department has instructed the entire " personnel of the office of the as ' slstant to. the secretary of war, In charge of soldier employment and welfare work, to bring this to the attention of all such men. Lieutenant Colonel Mathew C. Smith of the general staff and head of the bu i reau has issued a bulletin for nation-wide distribution, which says: . -"Any- discharged Service man who Is In need of medical treatment and feels , that his Illness is due to wounds or other disabilities received or aggravated 11 while in service, should at once see the nearest army hospital or local repre sentative of - the United States public health service for an examination. Ad dresses may be ascertained from the postmaster. The American Red Cross representative and state or municipal health officer also are able to advise service men about their cases and - should be consulted. "If discharge or other papers show I ing that the disability was existing at the time of separation from service are available, they should ' be taken along, as they will be of help in making a de cision on the esse. However, If these papers are not available the man should not hesitate to apply. South Portland Has Neighborhood Club With 30 Members The Neighborhood Community club was organized at the Neighborhood house in South Tortland with 80 charter members. The officers are: President, John i Heltkemper : vice president, Mrs. ' I. : II. Boyer ; secretary. Miss Ida ., ' Loewenberg : treasurer, A. E. Wright. ' Meetings will be held on the second Wednesday evening of each month at the Neighborhood house. Miss Loewenberg acted as temporary chairman and explained the purpose of the gathering was to perfect an organ . Izatlon to encourage nelghborllness and helpfulness. Short talks showing the speakers to be in sympathy with the movement were given by Mrs. Kelly, Mrs. Beyer, Mrs. Narod, Mrs. Stgell, ; Mrs. Brownstein. Mr. Heltkemper. Mr. Wright. Mr. Rosensteln, Mr. Zavln, Mr. Brunke. Mr. Akers and Mr. Boesl- The next meeting will be held the second , Wednesday in February. There will be . a speaker and a musical program. Miss Loewenberg will Je in charge of the program. , Pacific Northwest Railways Are Asked To Supply Exhibits Requesting every railroad entering the Pacific Northwest to make a big dis play of products and scenic possibilities of Oregon. Washington and British Co lumbia, Herbert Cuthbert. executive secretary of the Pacific Northwest Tourist association, has sent messages to the railroad offices In this city In forming them of the Northwest exhibi tion At the exposition in the Grand Cen tral Palace at New York, May 17 to 22. Railroad officials were unable to give definite assurance of support, at this time saying the transition of railroads from government to private control will effect to a large extent the funds neces sary to provide, exhibits.
