Front street receivers are experiencing considerable difficulty in securing a mar ket at this time for their heavyweight arrivals of large hogs, except at a fur ther sharp price loss. Differential between the price of live bogt hers and the , country killed product baa like wise been too great recently and thia has forced during the tost few days, a weaker tone all through thj country killed hog trade. Extreme top price basil for drested hoga as compared with a 810 live market to 22e a pound but only a sprinkling of the present arrivala are going above 21 ttc a pound. Salt Lake packers are also invading thia mar ket with lower priced pork loins and ribs and this competition has likewise affected the price of country killed hoga hare. Lard ia so dull and ao much lower priced ia the Eaat than hers that butchers -can bring the finished product from there and secure It cheep er than, buying dressed hogs at prevailing prices. That to tha big reason why big hoga are hard ta sell. COARSE GRAINS EASIER IN EARLY CHICAGO TRADE By Joseph F. FrNehartl Chicago. Dec 5. (I. N. S.) Stocks were buoyant in Wail street Thursday, net gains running- from a point or two up to as much as six. eight and in the case of Crucible 13 points. The advance of United States Steel common and preferred impressed the street and there was but little profit taking at the close of the day, so that the final prices were near the best. Activity of the market extended throughout all depart ments, although oils, steel, tobac cos and sugars were most prominent on the trading. While there were many Incidental rea sons for the advance of the market the big idea that Inspired Wall street was the new point of view In regard to foreign exchange. Foreign exchange has broken to a level where, it is im possible to do business with Europe. Therefore, Instead of exporting hun dreds of millions worth of goods to pur chasers whose ability to pay Is in ques tion those goods will be taken out of warehouses and sold at home, where there is certainty of cash payment. LOWER LIYIlfO COSTS The effect of this will be not only to j reauce tne cost or living but to reduce the bank loans and revive business ac tivity In all parts of the country. From this point of view the lower foreign ex change goes the more more bullish it is in the stock msvrkeC Foreign exchange was a little more settled today, but had no recovery worth mentioning. SWEETS GAJIf ON STREET Another bullish factor In the market was the information from Washington that the senate was prepared to rush the Edge bill to quick passage. StRl another bullish factor was the further evidence that brokers' loans have been reduced. Announcement that the government would keep hands absolutely off the sugar market after December 31 caused good buying in all companies dealing in sweets. American Beet Sugar, American Sugai Refining, Corn Products, United States Candy, Store, Loft Candy and Continental Candy all acted well and most of them showed material gains. In anticipation of some important an nouncement In the near future in regard to the Duke Whelan group of business enterprises, the tobacco stocks were alt strong. Tobacco products gained six points and Retail Stores more than three. Per Capita; Debt of French Cities Low 'As Shown by Tables In connection with the 145,000.000, 15 year.
