CARGO FOR ENGLAND READY J It orders for 8000 tons of cargo for Jiw York delivery are n8t received by local managers by next Tuesday, the newly completed Bteamer J. It. Gordon, built by the Northwest Steel company for the Union Sulphur Company, will proceed from this port to the Atlantic In ballast. .That was Hip Htatement today of W. .Patterson, president of the Northwest ..'Bond A Investment company, who has f ifteen commissioned by Douglas Wood- hams & Co., eastern agents, to secure ' cargo for the steamer. Not half of niifrri amount of cargo has yet been schedul!, due to the llmi- tatlons plared by the owners on the nature of the shipments to be made. Lumber will not be acceptable, be cause of the time required for unload ing and the probability that a lumber cargo will require several ports of dls ' charge. V. A flour cargo will not be taken If any thing else can be procured, because of the low rate belnp paid by the food ti tcorporation for rereal tonnape. However, Iatterson Is making an effort to In : duce the eastern agents to accept a car go partially composed of flour. - The matter of Betting cargo for this Steamer was referred to the Chamber : of Commerce by Tatterson and officers ef the chamber are hopeful of land ing the required amount of business be - tore the time limit expires. Patterson has been given until the 26lh to secure Me cargo and 10 days will be allowed for loading. f The chamber is working to secure a Vnlxed cargo of general merchandise and offerings of cheese, apples, box hook, wool. hops, canned goods, paper and other Oregon products are suggested. .; Captain M.
