One of , the largest farm realty deals of the year in this vicinity was the sale by Al Maurer, James Crouch and H. E. McKenney of this city of their interest in the Kelso Farm company, owner of the former llatchette place at LaDu on the Colum bia river, to the fourth member of the company, F. L. Stewart, cashier of the Kelso State bank. Stewart is now the sole owner of this diked farm - of nearly 600 acres. The company purchased the place from 'the late W. J. Matchette early thi! year and the three retiring- stockholders netted a nice profit by their investment. -; This 'farm is one of the finest in the Northwest. The ground lies level and is of the richest alluvial class. It was reclaimed from overflow this spring, and the Kelso Farm company put about 100 acres of new land into crop. Ad ditional acreage ' is now being' cleared, and more than 400 acres . Will be in crop next spring, and the -balance will be cleared as rapidly as the work can be done. Two large silos are now under con struction, and " Mr. Stewart -plans to make many further improvements about 'the farm. Al Maurer, who has been in charge of 'the farm for the Kelso Farm company, will remain in I charge of it for the next month or more i for Mr. Stewart. Oats on this place threshed about 150 bushels to the acre, which shows the wonderful productivity of the bottom lands which are being reclaimed. Sousing Shortage Is Acute at The Dalles The Dalles, Oct. 25. The clamor for homes continues to grow in this city, with apparently no relief in Bight. Practically no building is in progress and with little contemplated many per sons are forced to go to other cities. With winter coming on, The Dalles is facing the lpss of hundreds of workers who otherwise would settle here. Many Farm Sales Are Reported at Lebanon Lebanon, Oct. 23.
