- Wolfgang Oaumann
-Oregon City, Oct. . Wolfgang Bau
mann, a resident for nearly SO years of
the New- Kra district, died at his home
near New Bra Tuesday night at the age
of 12 years. He was born in Austria,
coming to the United States' 5 years ago.
Had he lived until next week, he and
Mrs.' Baumann would have celebrated
their sixtieth wedding anniversary.
Surviving, besides his wife, are eight
' children, 28 grandchildren and 15 great
' grandchildren. The children are : Mrs.
' Theresa Keif .and Mrs. Hulras, New
Era; Mrs. May Schilling, McMlnnvllle;
Mrs. France's Lewis. Oregon City ; Max
and Charles Baumann, New Kra ; Mrs.

Catholic church at New Era Thursday
: morning. In charge of Rev. Father Jonas
of Canby, and the interment will be

THREE MEN TO DECIDE
ROUTE; OF DAMASCUS
Report to Be Made Saturday and
Petition , for Election on
Bonds to Be Hastened.
Oregon City. Oct 8. The controversy
over the designation of the Damascus
district road to be paved under the pro
posed bond Issue will be settled by three
men. Instead of the general committee
of county -good road .enthusiasts. , This
decision was reached by the general
committee Tuesday night. , The distance
In controversy Is about three-miles. The
committee selected J. C Elliott, repre
senting Damascus, and Wallace Telford.
Boring. These, two will , choose, a third
member.' This smaller committee, is to
report to the general committee by Sat
urday, following which petitions calling
for the special election to vote on the
bonds will be called.

toward the construction of a new sus
pension brtdge over the Willamette river
at Oregon City, on the part of Clacka
mas county, provided the proposed road
bond Issue carries. I I Porter,- J. J.
Tobln and J. C. . Williams; appeared be
fore the Btate highway commission in
Portland Tuesday and urged the neces
sity of the commission paying the
greater expense of the bridge's con
struction. It was pointed out to the
commission that, with the completion
of the Pacific highway on the west side
of the river, affording a far more scenic
route than on the east side, and with
the possibility of .the Southern Pacific
changing its main llhe to that side; and
with the building up of that portion of
the county, the traffic across the bridge
would be of more general' nature.
Students to Celebrate
Vancouver, Wash.. Oct. 8. Friday- eve
nine the students of the boys', depart
ment of Providence academy will give
an entertainment in honor of Columbus
day. The local council of the Knights
of Columbus will participate. J. H.

was tendered Rev. and Mrs. John D.
Nlsewonder at the United Brethern
church Tuesday evening In honor of their
service and the fact that Rev. Mr. Nlse
wonder Is beginning his fourth year as
pastor of the churcn.
'Miss Juanita Schelpman entertained
with piano selections. Rev. P. E. Dark
and Rev. C. C. Curtis spoke for the
local ministerial association, J. L.
Sutherland represented the legal profes
sion, Arthur Soules, P. Dorks and J. I.
Garrett, chairman, spoke for the church.
A. Tiffany of Portland, former resident
of this city, also spoke. ,.
Rev. Mr. Nlsewonder came to this
city after having served for .threo years
as pastor of the First United Brethern
church of Portland. He came to Port
land from Dayton, Ohio, where he was
pastor of Oak Street church. Since com
ing to this city four years ago the local
church has been completed and the mem
bershtpoincreased more than 50 per cent.

Salmon creek Tuesday more than 10 gal
