Vudertons Is rather strong tt this time in tbe bide autrket, due both to the fact that the liay and June takeoff in of better quality than the wiiitet offerings, and fkewie that the demand is improving . Prichard Chicago, May 6. tl. N. B.) There was an unconfirmed rumor on the board of trade late in the day relative to the removal of the restric tions on the bringing into the United States of Canadian wheat and oats. Thia knocked the pins out from under the com market and oats market and following the sharp price recessions there were soma reactions and advances from the low est levels, wet losses were snown of H 9 4 a for Hay corn. S 9 8 e for July, and 4 H 9 4 o for September. Oats were 2 9 2 e lower. Provisions showed but little change for the day, yet the feeling was unsettled. Chicago. May 6. (L N. S.) Cora opened 6c lower to He higher today. Commission houses were on the buying aide at the start with the principal selling by local pit traders. The volume of business was fair. Over Sunday there were, high teippeTaturse in the .belt, followed by showers today. Week-end reports intimated that the demand for goods was m excess of the supply. . This news encouraged outside buying at the decline, which steadied the market in fnf of Wall street selling that was evidently designed to relieve concentrated hold ings. Liverpool and Southern houses were buy in:. Private cables . attributed the weakness in 1-iveipool to hedge sellina. At the end of the first 20 minutes the local market was about net unchanged. The break in corn led to Wall street and western selling of cotton in the last hour under which prices dropped 16 to 10 points. The claee was steady at 4 net advance of 8 to 18 points. A Cooke Co.. Board New York, May 6. (L K. 8.) Tba most important feature of the trading on tba Stock Exchange in the early dealings today was the heavy trading all around the room within a comparatively narrow range of fluctuations. The tone was strong, considering that the market was called upon to stand a large volume of realizing sales. Steel common ranged from 98 to 98 tt and the otbtw steel industrials acted in the same manner. Westtoghouse after open ing H higher at 57 yielded to 65 H. Ameri can Can anoved up 1 point to another new high record of 66 tt and Atlantic Gulf and West Indies rose 2 points to 156 H. Lorillard was in supply, falling over 7 points to 107 tt. Price movements were irregular during the forenoon, reflecting a continued increase in profit taking tales, which was offset In many houses by renewed pool activities with banking buying a factor in some issues. Canadian Pacific was extremely active and strong, advancing 4 points to 169, but the other railroad issues, including the low priced stocks, were in supply at conces sions Texas Company waa the most active of the oil Issues, moving up 7 points to 235. The traction stocks ware also strong, Interboro moving UP 1 to 14, while Consolidated Gas rose 2 points to 100. Steel common, after telling down to 98 tt . again rallied to 98 tt .
