Fruit and Grain Crops Favorable, Says Weather Man Edward L. Wells of the PertlsmI office, of tbe weather bureau advises: The weather of th weea wea generally fav orable for farm work and for the growth of crops.. The temperstnre averaged slightly abov normal, but there wars several cold Bights, and soma frost occurred. There was considerable cloudiness, particularly In the western counties, and some rain fell, but th soil was generally in better conditio to be worked than at any previous tim this season, and farm work made rapid progress. Fanning operations ar still backward over most af Western Oregon, but ar fairly well up is data in ths central and eastern counties. There is still soma complaint of short as of farm labor. Winter wheat, rye and oata continue to mk good progress. Some low fields in the Wil lamette valley are showing yellow bat the con dition to not serious. Winter wheat to in ths boot in Douglaa county and rye i headed in the milder parte of th state. Seeding of spring wheat, barley and eats continue. The eoil to generally in good condition and germination to natisfactory, though growth to rather slow. Plow ing for corn is in progress and aom corn has been planted. An increased acreage of corn to expected. The general outlook for f rait is excellent. Some local damage has been done to all kinds of fruit by frost, and cold rain has interfered with pollenation in some cases, bat thto applies to a very limited acreage. Peaches, plums, cher ries, and pears are well set. Prunes are setting well. Apple ire in full bloom in . most of the commercial districts. Spraying to well in hand. Extensive plantings of strawberries sod logan berries are being made. Conditions have beea particularly favorable for grass and hay crops. Alfalfa to 12 Inches nigh in Umatilla county.
