who will speak at The Auditorium Fri
day night at 8 o'clock on the subject of
Americanism vs. Bolshevism, is one of
the upstanding figures In American life
today. Before the Seattle strike he was
Mayor Hanson of Seattle. After that
strike he was a national figure. The
seed of Bolshevism had been planted at
Seattle. ? There were many' there who
saw the beginning of the "new revolu
tion" in ' the calling of v the strike, , its
fructification in success. When' business
and industry were .palsied by the walk
out, the eyes of the nation were turned
anxiously toward - Seattle and - its city
government Ole Hanson stepped into
the breach. He stood for law and order,
for equality and equal justice between
man and man. He prevailed. The strike
failed and Seattle and the nation took
up its forward march once .nAre V
Mayor Hanson told 10,000 cheering
people the story Of .the victory . of Se
attle's Americanism over Seattle's- Bol
shevism at San Francisco a few nights
ago. Friday night he will tell the story
to the people of Portland at The Audi
torium. In the statement, of the- sub
ject of his address to the management
of the Portland Press club, upon whosaj
Invitation Mayor Hanson was induced to
stop in Portland, he "said that he In
tended to "talk plainly" of the things
he knew -and had seen.. -
Mayor Hanson will be accompanied by
Mrs. Hanson, who has been in California
with him, and by two of their children.
While in Portland they will stay at the
Hotel Benson. Tomorrow at noon Mayor
and Mrs. Hanson will be the guests of
the Press club for luncheon at the Port
land. ; In the afternoon they will be
taken over the Columbia highway,
should they, so deilre. They win. leave
Saturday for Seattle.

J. J. Fisher, convicted of Operating a
whiskey still on Snake river, was sen

Queahpama was given three Months and
a fine of $350 on conviction of a charge

Members of the Chamber of Commerce
going as Portland delegates to the
sixth annual convention at Chicago,
April 24, 25 and 28. will leave tonight
in a special car to San FrancIsoS where
they will join the southern delegation
in making plans for the presentation of
Pacific coast topics. l: j I
The Portland delegation will go fully
prepared to tell those gathered at the
convention ail about the port of Port
land. Data relating to the port and its
facilities has been complied in brief
form and the local : men , will be ready
te answer any questions which may be
asked, them. , ;i i
Revision of the list shows that IS men
will attend the convention for Portland.
They are : W. P. La Roche, E. H. Sens
enich. A. C. Callan, David F. Morrison,
E. N. Weinbaum, C. Peterson and
Charles Devette, who will occupy - the
special car, and Kurt Koehler, John O.
Fitzgerald. H. F. Bolce and H. P.-Fer-gueson.
who will join the 'delegates 'at
Chicago.
The special oar will be attached to
the train leaving here at l a. m. One
day will be spent in San Francisco to
confer with the southern delegation.
They will then have their car -attached
to a special train known as the Foreign

At Chicago " the local delegates will
stop at the Stratford hotel. From, the
Foreign Trade convention it Is expected
that most of the Portland men will go
to the United States Chamber of Com
merce convention at St. Louis on April

the post-war meetings in shaping the
policy of the future American merchant
