The aftnual Lin coln day banquet, held under the aus pices of the Lincoln club of Jackson county, at the Hotel Medfonj Wednes day night was the usual brilliant gath- -.. , . . 7" : ' . i ering of the leading Republicans of the county. About 300 persons were in attendance. nd the chief orator of the night was Judge Wallace McCamant of Portland, who paid eloquent tribute to Lincoln, his subject being- "Lincoln as the Interpreter."- Among other speakers were Colonel H. II. Sargeant of this city, who paid tribute to the memory of Theodore Roosevelt in a masterly manner. Short talks were given by Mrs. Lee Lavenport, formerly of Portland but now a resident of Medford ; R. A. Booth of Eugene, state highway commissioner, and; Her bert Nunn of Salem, state highway com missioner. Dick Posey of Ashland, the James Whitcomb Riley of the Rogue river valley, read some original poems con taining local hits. The rest of the pro gram was interspersed with musical se lections. E. V. Carter, the Ashland banker, was the toastmaster. At the beginning of the banquet Lin coln club officers were elected as fol lows for the ensuing year : President, E. V. Carter of Ashland : Trice presidents, ju Newbury or ueaxora, i u. tsimp son of Ashland. George Hilton of Cen tral Point, J. W. Robinson of Jackson ville and Frank Brown of Eagle Point ; secretary, O.
