Nov. It. (WASH INOTON BUREAU OF THE JOUR NAD Senator Polndaxter haa Improved hla title aa the "Scold of the Senate " by hla latest resolution seeking to plaoe the aenate oh record tor "full alliance" with the other nations at war with Germany. Otherwise his latest effort haa little significance, for trie Repub lican leadera generally' have too much discretion to make his Ideas their own. Polndaxter apparently aspires to take a leading- place as a critic of the admin istration, since the policy of criticism haa become orthodox with hla party. He is apparently shooting jover the mark, and unless he curbs himself, will, in time, be taken in hand by the leaders to prevent his doing too much damage. It Is recalled that after the election of 191 the Washington senator began to cuddle up in the same bed with the reac tionaries he had formerly opposed. He failed on several occasions to act with progressive Republicans, who were fight ing Oalllnger's leadership and attempt ing to combat the complete return of the stand pat element to control of the sen ate minority. -. - It is also recalled 'that falnt'reports or a Poindexter bocfn for vice president were heard laat spring, and the senator made a statement saying he was not a candidate. Ills recent effort at leader ship In suggesting "Impeachment" of President Wilson and now his resolu tion expressing, in effect, want of con ildenaa in the executive to conduct foreign relations may be viewed in the light of these possible stretches of the Polndaxter ambition. Woman Sheriff on , Job in Texas County Coleman, Texas. Nov. II. (I. N. S.) airs, jonn il Bannister is the new sheriff of Ooleman county. All who know her say that when she buckles on her six-shooter and goes out to make an arrest the offender had better make peaceful surrender If he knows what is good for him. It is not meant by this that Mrs. Bannister is a woman of the rough man type on the contrary she Is unassuming, quiet and prepos sessing In looks. The sum and sub stance of It Is that she belongs to a stock of westerners that does not know what fear Is when it comes to fulfilling what she believes to be her official duty. Mrs. Bannister's husband. Cap tain Bannister, who died recently,' was sheriff of Coleman county for many years. Ills wife assisted him in his work in many ways and is said to be thoroughly familiar with the details of the office. BOBOVBKT -In this eity Nor. 14.
