THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL. PORT LAND, WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER ,13, 1918: 13 EGG MARKET IS ADVANCING THROUGHOUT UNITED STATES is 3. While thrre have been talr offerings of cubes recently on the market, demand has been even keener and practically all late offerings have been quickly picked up at prevailing quotations. . Print butter market here Is Influenced to a very considerable extent by the strength of the t a-tern trade. Retailers are complaining regarding the lack of general offerings of storage butter. They claim that it has been impoaiiihle during the last 4H Apple Activity Is Pronounced Here With Northern Spy Seasonable Seller Activity continues very pronounced In the lo ci', apple market for moderate priced stock with "cookers" predominating in the sales. Unless conditions chance ne additional carload lota of so called eastern fresh egg are likely to be purchased for the Portland market during the remainder of the season. Last quotations received by the trade indicates price of 57c f. o. b. eastern centers for fresh stock in carload lota. The freight charge is ap proximately 5e a dozen, which means a landed charge here in carload lots of not leas than 62c a dozen. - There is always a certain breakage in shipments, and this will add probably 2c a dozen to the landed cost here. This means that im porters cannot land these supplies under approx imately 64e a dozen, and as they must secure a profit to do botiness. their selling price to others j will not likely be below 86e on such offerings. LP lo tuts time sales or loesi iresn eggs oi ordinary candling hare been made as low as 65c a dozen, with aome charging as high as fl6c Handlers of eastern fresh eggs haTe been selling their supplies around 80 e 02c a dozen, and this has curtailed the demand for home offerings. With handlers of eastern fresh stock now asking 88c a dozen for supplies, this relieves the pres sure against the local offerings and a price of 67c at least for ordinary candling is therefore made. t - Cars " Wheat. Local trade in flour is extremely quiet. Gen eral public is buying sparingly in anticipation of an early removal of the ruling which requires the purchase of substitutes with wheat flour. Millers report that business has bees almost st a standstill during the last few days, and they expect the situation to remain ouiet until the obstructions are finally removed. An early report of the food administration meeting at Washington is expected by the trade, whn it is generally believed thst the substitute tuling will be removed. Bakers are also very much interested in the announcement of. an early removal of require ments for the mfcng of Liberty bread. As few of them have recently been carrying more than nominal supplies of either wheat flour or substi tutes, the removal of the ban will cause a much more active demand for tbs wheat product.
