Waaco coun ty baa encountered moat adverse condl tlona thia aeaaon but still today the grain crop prospects promise a good total yield. The aeaaon has boon a moat undesir able one from the standpoint; ef the rraln trower. The extremely dry fall months made It Impossible for many to sow their normal wheat area at that time and while thai aprtna months were Ideal for aeedinr operations, the aprtna: grain has been BTreatly handicapped by the lack of moisture, at the pinch period. It has not been real damage that has kept Wasco county from turning; out Its createst wheat crop. .The truth Is that a largo percent ef the planting; scarcely received a start and the remainder will produce only a normal spring crop, which la pot saying anything too favorable. CnltlTatloa Shows Resnlta It has been another season when the methods of farming, are clearly reflected In the crop prospect a. Whan the season has plenty of moisture the poorly farmed land will vie with the better cultivated tracts and when the rainfall has been very heavy, th poor land oftlmea pro duces as much grain. If not more, than the better lands. This seseon anyone familiar with farming methods can readily pick out those place a which have received best attention. Fall wheat shows a good average con dition .generally ln Wasco county; In fact. In some districts the outlook ts for the best crop known for many years. Seventy-five per cent of the grain area ln the county ia planted to wheat, th percentage this season being unusually great. Of the remaining 25 per cent. 20 per cent la In barley and only $ per cent oats planting ts shown. Condition of the barley crop la very favorable ; In fact. In the county gener ally It Is even more favorable than wheat. Emit Pack Btandardlxed Some of the shallow land farms will scarcely produce sufficient grain to pay for the harvesting but this should alarm no one. 'for the reason that similar story may be told practically every year, no matter what the condition of th crop on the better lands. In general the fruit crops of the eoun ty are satlafactory although some are claiming a shortage of, pcachea Th apple crop looks good, th cherries ar ending th season with a rather favor able yield, especially of the Bing variety. The quality of the Blng cherry crop of Waaco county was neve better than this season. The Jtoyal Anne crop was be low expectations but the quality was good. The Dalles la somewhat Jealous of Its reputation as a fruit producing; center. Under old conditions the bulk of the crop was shipped to outalde markets di rect by th producers. Thts resulted tn all sorts, of packs, many of which were detrimental to th reputation of the fruit. This aeaaon moat of the soft fruit has been shipped to market through the regular marketing interests. Thts has standardised the pack to a considerable extent and better prices have therefore been received by th producers, Bids Wasted a Coaaty Read Work: Thognaa K.
