BLACK, PAQUET, BACK MOVE f ' Outlbok for Accomplishments of Hope Look Bright; ffforts Already Meeting With Success. ; With the visit here on Wednesday of J. W. Hubbard, special engineer Inves tigating the, possibility or estaDlianinE government concrete shipbuilding yard n Portland, the city has done all pos sible for the present to Interest the United Htates shipping board In putting In such a plant and attention Is turned a tra I rt to nrlvate interest. i A croan of Portland capitalists, of Which deorge N. Black of the American Shipbuilding company . and Josepn Paauet are representatives. Is known to be back of a move to establish here a private yard for concrete nhip construc tion. Theiif efforts thus far have met With considerable success. It U reported. and the outlook for the accomplishment f their hopes Is 'bright. I Mr, Hubbard, as a government engl Deer and Investigator, was unable to al.ed any light Upon his consideration of Portland as a lte for a government yard, for which '110,000,000 has been ap propriated. It has been certainly de cided that nof the two yards .to be J placed on the Pacific Coast wjll -to lo cated at Oakland, CaU but - as to the other nothing will be revealed until Mr, Hubbard and his associates, who are In Southern California, have reported to tjie shipping board at Washington. It is pointed out by those Interested that in spite of the location here of a government . yard the community could maintain a private yard splendidly and business men will put every energy into getting both the federal and private in terests. Mr. Hubbard Wednesday night held a meeting with representatives of the Oregon Society of Engineers and the state -bureau of mines, the Chamber of Commerce and other organisations. The session was devoted to an examination by the investigator of Portland claims for recognition, but he absolutely de clined to make any expression m a re sult of his visit. He left Portland this morning for the return trip to Wash ington. Yesterday he viewed the en tire . waterfront on both sides of the river, on the east- side to Vancouver, and on the west side to Linn ton. CAS IN THE STOMACH ! With Lloyd J. Wentworth, Oregon representative of the shipping board, acting as chairman, plans ' for a base ball team, a general club, a "Hoover" banquet and' an or rice magazine were outlined. C. Food ferments, and sours creat Ing the distressing gas which distends the stomach and hampers the normal (unctions of the vital internal organs. often affecting the heart. It is the worst of folly to neglect such .serious condition or to treat with or dinary digestive aids which have no neu tralising effect on the stomach acids. Instead get from any druggist a few ounces of Blsurated Magnesia and take a, teaapoonfui in a quarter glass of water right after eating. This will drive the gas. wind and bloat right out of the ' body, sweeten tne siomacn, neutralize the excess acid and -prevent its forma tion and there is no sourness or pain. ' Blsurated Magnesia (In powder or tablet form never liquid or milk) is harmless to the stomach, inexpensive to take and the best form of magnesia for stomach . purposes. It is used by thousands of people who enjoy their meals with no more fear of indigestion. . (Adv.) Beaver May Be Replaced by New Steamer for Freight Service. The fact that the United States ship ping board is seriously considering re placing the steel steamer Beaver of the San Francisco & Portland Steamship company with a vessel of wooden con struction for the 'fcoastwlse run has been made known to those interested by agents of the board, and an inves tigation is under way to determine If the new steamer Wasco, first vessel launched by the Grant Smith-Porter company, cannot be put on, the run. It is pointed out that the steel vessel will best serve the interests of the shipping board, while a good wooden vessel would take her place. In case the Wasco were assigned to the run she would add somewhat to the freight ca pacity,, but would ' eliminate passenger carriage. Inasmuch as no plan to con vert her Into a passenger ship would be considered. The Beaver sailed today on her last voyage to San Francisco, where she will be turned' over to the shipping board.
