Lumber men of the Northwest were shocked to day when they learned of the death of Charles EL Patten, president of the Atlas Lumber company of this city,' In a wreck -on ' the Great Northern last nlfbt at Sedro-Wolley. : Patten was one of the best known men in the lum ber business of the west and. always took an active part in activities of the industry. Patten was born in Lesueur, Minn., In 1865, and came to Seattle In 1889. He was prominent in the organisation of the Paciflo Coast Lumber Manufac turers' association, which now is the West Coast Lumbermen's association. In addition to his lumber business he was Interested In mining properties in Osegon and was a director of the National - Bank of Commerce of this city.
