Attend Walsh rnaeral A number of officials of the O-W. R. A N. rail road went to La Grande Tuesday to attend the funeral of Thomas Walsh, division superintendent of the system at Spokane. Mr. Walsh was a veteran railroad man and was well known throughout the Northwest. He leaves four sons who are dispatchers in rail road service. Mr. Walsh had been in the employ of the Q.-W. R. & N. for 27 years at the time of his death. nUpiaos Tight Xalssr. Thirty-two Filipinos passed through Portland Wednesday on the way from San Francisco to Bremerton navy yard. They are enlisted men In the United States navy and were accompanied by 12 American tars. The islanders are a happy lot and look forward to a tilt with the kaiser as a holiday adventure. The party arrived at 10:10 and left for tbe north at 1 o'clock, O'Hara lectors Tonight. Professor J. JP. O'Hara of the extension faculty of the University of Oregon, will lec ture this evening on "The Congress of Berlin," as a part of his course in "Recent European History." Dodson at Balsmv As a representa tive of the Chamber of Commerce, Ex ecutive Secretary Dodson is at Salem today attending the hearing before the state emergency board on the ap peal to .-. supply more $ money for ' the grain, standard bureau of the public service commission. The I7&00 appro priated by the last legislature for the bureau has been exhausted and those making the appeal for more funds take the position that the work of the bureau should be continued. - "Two lectures by Poster. "Life at the Front" and "Modern Methods of Warfare" will be the subjects of lec tures by Dr. William Trufant Foster, president of Reed college, at the Lin coln high school Friday and Saturday nights, beginning at 8 o'clock. Both lectures will be Illustrated and open to-the public. Dx.
