crete pavements?
This Is the question asked by Herb
ert Nunn, state highway engineer, of
the directors of the Oregon Portland
cement company. Nearly ail the Jobs
have been awarded for bltullthlc
"This office has been somewhat sur
prised at the Tact that we have not
received any Lids for cement concrete
pavement this year, with the exception
of two bids on the one mile of work at
Sheridan," says Mr. Nunn. In his letter
to the cement company directors.

"As all of the pavements which have
been awarded this year have been let
. to the lowest bidder, regardless of type,
we are at a loss to understand tnis.

The state highway engineer's letter
to the directors of the cement company
was prompted by an Inquiry from J. E.
Moore, assistant sales manager of the
company, who referred to the TllLa

highway commission did not give some
of the contractors time to look over
the road before the date for opening
