Much Liquor Is
Taken From Boats

gest seizure of liquor made by local of
ficers since the state went dry. was
made by Sheriff Gage and hi deputies
on two vessels. The steamer Hardy,
which arrived Tuesday night, was
raided and 419 quarts of whiskey. 58
quarts of beer and five gallons of wine
were seized and locked in the city JaiL
Wednesday afternoon, the steam
schooner Santa Monica, which arrived
to load lumber at North Bend, was
raided by the sheriff and ES quarts of
whiskey were seised. The liquor was
concealed between decks astern and the
sheriff took up planking in the deck
to get at it.
Tiny Girl Run Over;
Is Hurt Only Little
Not seriously hurt by the mishap.
Lulu Thorns, four years old, crawled
out from underneath a for-hire auto
that had knocked her down and run
over her Wednesday evening. The
child, the daughter of F. A. Thorne of
1039 East Eighteenth street, north, ran
out from the curb at East Eighteenth
street and Alberta avenue, and was
struck by the approaching auto. J.
Altergett. 418 Failing street, the driver,
applied his emergency brakes and
stopped the car In its own length. The
little girl, who was only slightly
bruised, was treated by a nearby doc
tor and sent to hsr home.

Vacation rates went into effect
Wedneaday on all the railroads of the
northwest. The combined rates and
warm weather has resulted In a rush
of business that has nearly swamped
the local passenger offices, especially
since many of the employes have en
listed. Although the rates ar slightly high
er this year than last, the officials
think that the travel will be even
larger than last season. The round
trip to Chicago this year Is fSO, an
advance of 17.50 over the rate of last
year. Equivalent raises have been
made on all the way polnta
This season the railroads will
abandon the dally sales method and
sell the reduced tickets only on the
following days: From June 30 to SO
Inclusive. July J. 4. 8, 7. 13. 14, 0. II.
37 and 28; August S. 4. 10, 11. 17. 18,
24. 25 and 31; September 1. 7, 8. 14. 13,
21, 22. 28, 29. The final return limit
Is three months from date of sale,
provided that It Is not later than Oc
tober 31.
Though the rates are higher this
year, the stopovers allowed are longer.
No stopovers will be allowed west of
Huntington Or.; Missoula, Mont.;
Whlteflah, Mont, or Fernle, B. C. but
east of theae places, unlimited stop
overs are to be allowed.
