Missing Once M6re
Camas, Wash., June 21. Marjorle
Bennett, the 17-year-old girl who
eloped and married Irvine Miller, a
month ago, disappeared again Tues
day. MlUer, who Is oat on ball under
a charge of abduction. Is also missing.
They were married in Stevenson. Ska
mania county. May 21. and Miller was
arrested the next day. The sheriff
of Skamania county refused on tech
nical grounds to deliver the prisoner
to Clarke county authorities, and later
released him from custody. He was
taken in Hood River a few days later
and returned here for preliminary
hearing, which he waived and was
bound over to appear in the superior
court.
The father of the girl announced
his intention of starting an action to
have the marriage annulled.
Ticket Sales Spurred
By Vacation Eates
The vacation rates were reestab
lished by the railroads for the summer
on Wednesday. The hot weather snd
the reduced rates have combined to
stimulate the vacation travel. Many of
the early season tickets are being sold
to school teachers and to students.
Other tickets are being sold either
to the many summer resorts Of thw
northwest and to-eastern cities where
relatives live. This rush In business
is almost swamping the railroad of
fices, especially as many of the regu
lar employes have enlisted.
California Sends
N. E. A. Delegates
Responding to an Invitation from the
Portland Chamber of Commerce
through Its president. H. L. Corbett,
the Oakland and San Francisco Cham
bers of Commerce will send a special
train to the meeting of the National
Education association meeting here
July 7-14. The train will arrive here
probably July S. J. IL King, president
of the Oakland Chamber of Commerce,
has replied to Mr. Corbett's Invitation,
and Joseph E. Calne, secretary of the
Oakland chamber, will head the partv.

gested for a Fourth of July celebra
tion In Portland this year.
Plans for the celebration were dls
enssed at a meeting of the county
commissioners and city officials Wed
nesday afternoon, and a call for a
meeting of the big committee appoint
ed by Mayor Albee was issued for this
afternoon.
The city council appropriated $600.
the county commissioners are to ap
propriate a similar amount, and with
the $400 left from last year's Fourth
of July fund, the committee will have
a total of $1400 to be used in celebrat
ing Independence day.

Forest Official Visits. For eight
years district fiscal agent of the
forest service in Portland, A xi.
Cousins, now of Ogden, has returned
to his former post and is making an
official business visit in this city
and the northwest. He Is accom
panied by J. C. Falck, property audi
tor, of Ogden, where Mr. Cousins Is
' property assistant of the forest serv
ice. He left his Portland position on
the first of the year.
Eighth Almost a Battalion. Eighth
company. Coast artillery, had a rec
ord attendance; at drill Wednesday
night, with Lieutenant V. N. Walton
in command. Members of other com
panies are drilling regularly with th
Eighth and recruits unassigned are !
also reporting. It makes the com
pany almost a battalion, and It is
divided into three drill divisions for
convenience and better handling.
