Three pub lie markets where children may sell the produce from their school gardens will be opened as soon as the produce is ready. For tbe benefit of the sanitary corps of the national guard regimental hospital the Progressive Women's league has planned a dance tonight at the Mult nomah hotel. The Third regiment band will give a concert and play for the dance following. Colonel and Mrs. John L. May' will lead th grand march. Shipbuilder Xs Hurt. J. D. Nord strom. 1942 East Alder street, a snip- builder employed at the Northwest Steel company's plant, received a minor Injury to his back this morning when he fell from a 30 foot scaffold surrounding one of the ships, into the water. He was taken to St. Vincent's hospital by the Ambulance Service company. His injuries are not of a serious nature. Mayor-Elsot to Speaav Mayor-elect George L Baker will be the Kuest of honor at a luncheon at the Lniversity club Thursday at 12:15 o'clock, which will be attended by both men and women. Advance registration for the TJnl versity of Oregon summer classes at Portland, which open next Monday, In dicates that there will be an enroll ment of 200 or more. Owing to tha large demand for these subjects, courses in Spanish and botany have been added since the first announce ment for Portland courses was made. The university summer work for Portland was first planned to accom modate a large number of Portland teachers, whose duties in connection with preparation for the National Ed ucation association made It imperative that they remain hero instead of going away to summer school. At first an nounced, there were to be courses in only five subjects. There are now 12 courses offered, in seven different subjects. University Credit Given By special faculty ruling, residence credit for the work done at Portland this summer may be applied toward a degree the game as if it had been done at Eugene. This arrangement is being taken, advantage of by a great many students, especially teachers, who do not find it convenient to epend an entire year at Eugene to satisfy the year's residence requirement for earn ing a degree. Teachers holding state life certificates are entitled to con sider threo summer school sessions either at Portland or Eugeno as the equivalent of a year's residence at the university. Classes will be held dallr at the Central library. The term Is for six weeks, beginning Monday. Juno 18, and running three weeks until the Na tional Education association meetine, when there will be an intermission from July 7 to 14, to permit the student's to attend the sessions of the convention. There will be three weeks after the convention, ending Augrust 3.
