Pendleton. Or.. March 20. -Thousands of
acres of wheat land in Umatilla county are now
being feseeded. or will be ia the next few
weeks, because of the Injury done by the cold

wheat community in the county tbst hss es
caped- damage, and hardly a fanner but will
have some of his land to reseed.
With wheat worth better than $1.50 a bushel,
the expense pf reseeding will mean a big loss
to farmers. There will be the additional loss
of lesser yields, for spring sown grain rarely
makes within 10 bushels of the acre yield of
fall sown grain.
Umatilla county farm lands have suffered sll
winter from the Isek of a snow blanket.
Though all other parts of eastern Oregon, east
ot this county, have been under anow aince No
vember, the snows tbst have fallen locally
have been of abort duration. This left the
sprouting wheat unprotected during periods of
cold snails snd cold winds. The cold winds

this may be what la keeping soma of the
grain from sprouting. One farmer reports

The rain last night was the most beneficial

will be planted this spring, owinsr to the In
