Mohair Mills May ' Soon Be Re-Opened The outlook for the conversion of the mohair mills at Sellwood Into a worsted yarn spinning plant Is good, the promoters say. As it stands the plant represents an original investment for its eight acres of ground, build ings and machinery of about $300,000. On account of unfavorable conditions of the markets for mohair, the concern closed down about three years ago and has been Idle ever since. About six months ago J. A- Zehntr bauer, president of the Portland Knit ting; company, realising the necessity of a worsted yarn spinning plant on this coast, began an investigation of the mohair mills with a view of trans forming them Into such an Institution. It waa found that this could be ac complished at very little expense, once the plant had been secured, iience an option was taken and last month a cor poration, capitalized a 1350,000, was organized, and there is now every in dl cat ion that the new Industry will re place the old. At present there Is no worsted yam spinning plant nearer than Pittsburg and Philadelphia, Pa., and from eight to 10 months is the usual time required to fill an order placed with these east ern mills. Citizens of Sellwood have signified a willingness to take 25,030 worth of the company's stock.
