To The Oregon Journal. .
. The Journal has, by Its refusal -
to print the delinquent tax list,
reduced the cost of this appar-
ently needless expense by ap- f
proximately $3000. This Is a
gift to the delinquent tax pay-'
H ers, who would be compelled to
pay the amount of the adver- .
It- Using, which is placed as a lien w
against their property.
The board of county commls-
si oners, by a majority vote, or-
dered ' the delinquent lax list
published In all of the Port-
land papers, and by your re-
funat to publish It you have, as
I stated above, saved this
amount to the delinquent tax-
payers, for which I wish, as a
county commissioner, to thank Ht
you. Yours vry truly,
. RUKUS C. HOLMAN.

his benefactor half the profits of the

towards the printing of a volume of
poems. Immediately afterwards Bruce

then placed Bruce under arrest. The
complaint was signed by Mrs. Lau

this morning.

Mrs. Lawrence had made violent love
to him, while he resided in her home
and that tys mother had left the house
one morning when she caught him sit
ting on Mrs. Lawrence's bed. This
statement, Mrs. Lawrence promptly re
futed. "Well, he a liar." exclaimed Mrs.
Lawrence. "That's all I've got to say.

ply a matter of money with me. He
was simply a lodger. I told him I
never intended getting married again;
that my only love haU been for Mr.

3Ca and Snovel Arrive.
After Bruce was taken back to the
prisoner's detention room, preparatory
to going to jail, he asked for Mrs.
Lawrence.
You know mother came down stairs
with the ahovel and caught me In your
room, ' began Bruce. The retort was a
slap in the face that sent Bruce reel
ing. 'Take that woman out of here,"
he said excitedly to the baAlff, but
Bruce's mother came in at that Junc
ture, and the three reengaged in conversation.
Bruce said hft hart written tho mnr-Am
