KNOW WHAT KIND OF FIRE TRUCK TO BUY Number of Salesmen Attend Council Session to Tell of Their Wares, Oregon City, Dec. J5. A special meeting of the council was held laat night for the purpoae of discussing the purchase of a fire truck and the granting of a Jitney franchise to W. M. Foster for the operation of autos between Oregon City and Portland. The franchise brought before the council by Mr. Foster was amended in several ways. The franchise as it reads now will call for and demand posted schedules in prominent places in the cHy and all cars running on the line. -A $5000 aurety bond la com pelled to be posted, by Mr. Foster. A S30 Quarterly license was decided upon at a previous meeting but the number of cars that could be run under tjhad not been aettled. The - Question was brought before the council Thursday night and motion for a second reading was aaked for January 3. The city having about decided now that it-is financially able to buy a fire truck is undecided as to what make would serve the city best. Padden Dies at Vancouver i ' . . j Vancouver. Wash., Dec. 15. -Thomaa W. Padden, a pioneer resident of Van couver, died tbia morning at hla home, 21 East Seventh street, after a lin gering illness. ' He waa TO years old and had resided her for more than SO years. - Mr. Padden waa a native of Ireland and ; was born March IS, 1844. He came to, Vancouver in 1859 and on Oc tober 4. 1873, was married to Sarah Byrne, who with a number of children survives. The children are Mrs. P. J. Klrwin, Mrs. Joseph, J.
