Late Saturday, at tile home of Mr. and Mrs. George Schmid, a party of marriage at Salem of Arthur K. Young of Blackfoot, Idaho, and 'Misv Mar gurrlte DeKeyBer of that city. Mr. 'Young wllj bo remembered by count less friends at Portland, where he held a position with the Northwestern Na tional bank. The ceremony took place close to the midnight hour, in the reception COMMANDERS m room, prettily adorned with white and yellow rosea and dahlias, under a bow er of the same flowers, erected in a corner. George Schwlnd led the Dride to the improvised altar, to the strains of Mendelssohn's "Wedding March,' played by Miss Ruby Welsh. Tom Ordemann sang "O, Promise Me." Miss Adeline DeKeyser and Fred Silberg acted as bridesmaid and best man, and little Miss Constance Bougher of Port land filled the role of ringbearcr. Rev. G. C. Van Gotthem of Nogales, Ariz., read the ceremony. A buffet supper was served after the wedding. The following guests were present: Mrs. William Young, Mrs. Nath. DcK'.yser, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. A most delightful surprise party was given for Miss Florence Engberg at her home, 288 Ivy street, last Sat urday. Ar rangements have been made for a joint meeting in Portland at the Ma sonic Temple on the night of Septem ber 10 of Portland chapter of this city, Multnomah chapter of Salem, Clackamas chapter of Oregon city and Oregon chapter of Jacksonville as a reunion of the four chapters that met In Portland on Scpetmber IS. 1860. to form the grand chapter, Hoyal Arch Masons of Oregon. Hon. J. C. More land, clerk , of the Oregon supreme court, the oldest living past high priest of Portland chapter, will give prizes for the card players. Boak of the Wood men of the World will stop In Port land on October 12 as the guest of the local camps In this city. He will at tend the dedication ceremonies of Mc Mrs. George A. White, wife of the commander of Troop A, Oregon cav alry, has returned from San Diego, where she went to visit her husband during the encampment there. Satur day. September 2. she and her two little dauchters bade farewell to the trooD at Campo. about half way be tween San Diego and Calexlco. "The last we saw of the tcoop when our auto turned back, it was stream ing over a hill, all In such splendid order," said Mrs. White, "and every man ISoked so well and strong. Tanned? Indeed they are. And they have picked up a number of pet dogs, too. I asked one of the men to give' me a pup they called Pronto, and he said he was going to bring Pronto back to Port land and give him to his sweetheart." Mrs. White says the members of the troop are In splendid shape and all work in harmony with each other and the officers. "I did not see a horned toad or a lizzard while I was down there," said Mrs. White. The children enjoyed everything they saw. The people of San Diego were very glad to do any thing they could for the Oregon troops. A U. S. army officer told me without knowing that I was from Ore gon, and the Third regiment was the finest body of volunteer troops he had ever seen. . The members and officers of Troop A are busy all the time. They drill In the morning and attend school In the afternoon and stand guard at night and work with the horses. Now that the Third regiment is home we are hopeful that Troop A will be re lieved also. Perhaps we would have re mained in spite of the heat being 130 under the tents, but the children had to go to school." School Enrollment In Bend Is Largest Highest Mark Beached Last Tsar Xs Tut Exceeded on First Say of Term; Total V umber is 641. Bend. Or., Sept 12. The Bend pub lic school opened the fall term Mon day with far the largest enrollment In Its history, being far greater than the highest mark reached last year. In the grimmer grades the registra tion was 550. About half this num ber registered the first day last year. The high school enrollment was 91 against 60 the last year. Expecting a heavy Increase in School attendance the board made tentative contracts with two extra teachers and after yesterday's open, ing it was found necessary to engage .four more, bringing the total 40 20 as against 14 last year. The board finds it difficult to obtain housing facilities for all the children. Judge SIcipworth of Eugene opened the Sep tember term of the circuit court Monday at Coqullle. The first case taken up was that of Frank B. Cam eron, charged with criminal libel. Cameron is editor and publisher of the Agitator, a weekly paper of North Bend. The complainant Is Allen $c-i Leod, steward of the county poor! farm, who alleges that articles pub-i lished about him and his conduct of the poor farm were libelous. The Woodmen of the World of this city have cared for the families Of their members In the Oregon troops on tho Mexican border, and said very little about it. Any case of aid asked for was promptly and quietly attended to with a feeling of patriotic gratitude to the men who left their families and dependent ones for the call of their country. Sherwood, state commander of the Maccabees, visited Oregon City last night and addressed the local tent and its guests on the work, history and advantages of the order.
