While Harold Hangover Wolvarton, portly boss of the saseeif rassed Baals, slouched gloomily In hla coop and worked his jaws like a rock-cruaher over a larsre quid of long cut, hla paid athletes were taking a double beat lng from Walter Hennery McCredle'a atretch runnera. The two-ply victory clinched the ae rlea for the Beavera, regardless of how Mve games jo today. The score was 6 to 1 In the game in which Byron Houok beat Couch and Oldham and 4 to 1 In the battles of, Herb Kelly and Win Noyes against Went, Krlokson, Couch and Brown. The Hen vers have won four out of the five games played with the Seals. Honok Gets Away Good. The Beavers put Houok In the lead In the first inning of the first game with two runs, thanks to some pincti-httting of Ivan Howard and Kenny Williams. Evans drew a walk rrom Couch and Wilie moved him along on a sacrifice. Houthworth fanned, but Howard sin gled across second, bringing little Joe home, and taking second on the throw in ril11nM. - -V. . I - .1 1 ! in. II iinaiiin tauflll X1UUIQ 111 a little too far, and raised a two-plyer over his head. Kenneth was a little too ambitious and tried to stretch his hit. being headed at third, Bodie to Coffey to Jones. XHike Hchaller didn't like a thlrdJ striKe that was called on him In the Ihlrd and chattered so much that Bill Gutihrle chased him out of the ball yard, which caused the Induction Into left field of "Flash" Fitzgerald and his trained Charley-horse. They Knock Couch Out. Couch lasted until the fifth frame, when Bolly Vaughn sent him to the showers with a well directed punch to right field. Roclio singled through short and Rodgera walked. Vaughn failed twice nt the bunt and then doubled to right, scoring Roche. Red Oldham confidently approached the mound and fanned Houck, but the heavy artillery was yet to unlimber. Kvana cracked a choice slant to the . right field fence and brought 'Rodgera and Vaughn home. Wllle also singled to right, but Southworth filed to Cal vo, and Finney called Evana out on a steal of third. Until the ninth, Houck had the Seala blanked, only three men facing him In every Inning but the second and fourth. Only Speas and Downs had been able to hit and Speas reached base on a walk, making Che trio that got on the baga In eight Innings. Brown Has CI oca Call. Wolverton sent Curly Brown up as a pinch hitter in the ninth and Houck nearly took the visor of Curly's cap off with a pitched ball. Thta waa fol lowed by Calvo's double against the right center field fence. BUI Speas hit one through the pitcher's box too hot to handle, and Brown acored. Fitzger ald and Bodie both fouled out and lowna ended the Seala' chances with a long arch to Williams. HI West got through the first inning ,of the second game all right, but the Beavers began to find the old playmate in the second round. Williams singled 1'a.st first and Roche beat out a roller to Coffay. Rodgera forced Wllllama at third, West to Jonea, but Kelly was there In the pinch with a double over Hodlo's head that cleaned the sacks and the Ounner was out stretching, Bodie to Downs to Jones. The March of Old Hiram. In the fourth Old Hi was sent helter-skelter to the clubhouse. With one gone Roche singled to left and Rod gera between first and second. Vaughn tapped a single to right and acored Itoche, putting Rodgern on third. That waa the last of West. Erickson took up the pltcih-lng and fanned both Kelly and Evans, Vaughn sandwiching In a steal. A little hard luck attended the Seala In the fifth. Coffey singled through Kvana and Jbnes doubled to right. WUle'a throw to Rodgera hopped out of Bill's paws and Coffey tried to score but waa nabbed on an accurate throw to Roche from Rodgera. Jonea was run down between aecond and third on 8ep ulveda'a grounder to Evans. Erickson hit in front of the plate and was touched out by Roche. Calvo XaJce Ore Catch. Senor Oalvo saved Erickson a couple of runa In the sixth by a ..sparkling catch orr Jtcvana oat wun two out ana two Beavers ready to acore. The Seala were given a fine chance in the elgihth, when Sepulveda aingled to right, but was out stealing, with Wolverton acting as pinch hitter. Har ry waa thrown out by Kelly and then the southpaw lost control. Calvo sin gled to right, followed by the hitting of Speas and the walking of Sohaller and Bodie, the lattera amble forcing In Calvo. McCredle crooked a finger at Jeremiah Downs. Jerry htt a ground ball to Evana, Who stepped on third and forced Speas for the third out. The Beavers scored the fourth of ihelr quartet In the eighth with two out. Rodgera got ma tnira single ana Vaughn walked, followed by Noyea" single to right that Calvo couldn t nan die. which scored Rodgers. Evans walked and Lefty - Brown replaced Couch, wiao In hla turn had replaced Erickson. McCredle pulled Wllle, a left-handed batter, and Nixon went In, only to end the Inning by skying to Bodie. Forty thousand persons thronged the atands and dotted the hills near Wee haqulc park here this afternoon and watched the most prominent athletes In the United States shatter six A. A. TJ. records in the A. A. U. senior cham pionship events One of the records which fell was an American mark, and was torn down by George A. Bronder of the Irlah-Amerl-can A. C. of New York, when he heaved the Javelin 190 feet and six inches. The previous record. 184 feet, 0 Inches, waa made by H. B. LI versed ge from Stanford, California, April 11, 1914. The former records Which were shat tered were as follows: Robert Simpson of the University of Missouri clipped two-fifths of a second off the high hurdles record by going over the barriers in 14 4-5 seconds. Simpson also holds the world's record of 14 3-6 seconds; V. A. Hummel, running- under the colors of the Multno mah Athletic club, bettered the 440 yard high hurdles mark for grames When he finished In 64 4-6 seconds; Fred Murray of the Olympic club. San Francisco, lived up to expectations by smashing the senior record for the 220 yard hurdles. He cleared these sticks in the fast time of 24 seconds flat. The half-mile mark for senior contests also went by the board when Don M. Scott of the Mississippi Agricultural college clipped a fifth of a second off the old mark, winning In 64 seconds. Mucks Better One. Arlie Mucks, the Wisconsin Univer sity giant weight man, heaved the dis cus to a new mark for senior contests when he threw it 146 feet 4 hk, inches. The two short distance hisfdle races and the battle between Thomas Halpln of the Boston A. A. and James E. "Ted" Meredith, In which the latter was beat en In the quarter-mile run, featured the meet. In the 120 yard high hurdles Blmp eon got away to a great start sd led the field all the way down the bourse. His form waa perfect, enabling- him to clear each hurdle by Inches. He fin ished a full yard ahead of Fred W. Kelly of,Los Angeles. The race showed the great crowd the efforts of the four beat hurdlera of the world and anti cipations of all experts were realized when the youth from Bosworth, Mo.. was returned a victor. Hla record la really better than the world's record which now la recognized, but it has been stated by Frederick W. Rubien, secretary-treasurer of the Amateur Athletio union, that Simpson's record of 14 3-6 second probably will be al lowed at the next meeting. Summaries: Mile run Ivan A. Myers, Illnola A. C.
