Prank Templeton topped the nim-
rods In yesterday's practice shoot of
the Fourth Annual registered trap-
sliootlng tournament of the Portland
Gun club with the score of 95 out
of a possible 100. Frank C. Rlehl of
Tacoma, was high professional with
96 per cent.
Close to 40 shooters, including a
number of out-of-town trapmen, par
ticipated in yesterday's events.
Six shooters tried their hand at
shooting doubles. Frank Templeton.
Jim Seavey and Charles Teith tied
with the scores of 20 out of 24.

First Baseman Bourg was the only
Wildcat to get beyond first base. Chet
Murphy was touched up for nine hits.
Including a home run, a triple and a
double. Pellette fanned 12 men and
Murphy 8. The only error made was
high foul that Bourg dropped.

Los Angeles, July 10. Carl Mitze,
former manager of the Oakland Pa
cific Coast league team, who was re
leased by the Vernon Tigers early in
May, has been signed to manage the
St. Joseph club of the Western
league. Mitze will take over the Sc.
Joseph team during the latter part
of this week.

St. Louis. July 10. (I. N. S.) Two
big innings, the fourth and the
seventh, gave the Cardinals an 8 to 6
victory over the Phils yesterday. The
Quakers ran up a lead on four runs
but in the fourth inning L Louis
scored three runs on a pass, a double,
a triple and a single. Three singles,
two sacrifice hits, a wild throw and
Betzel's triple counted five more for
the Cardinals. The Score:

in a double headed bill yesterday, the
locals winning the first 3 to 0 and
Brooklyn the second 10 to 3. Toney
held the league leaders to three scat
tered hits in the first game, while the
Reds bunched hits off Coombs. The
Dodgers had their own way in the sec
ond game, pounding three pitchers

Succeeds David Lloyd-George
Who Is New Secretary for
War of Great Britain,
London, July 10. (I. N. S.) The
Press bureau announces the ap
pointment of the Right Hon. Samuel
Montagu to be minister of munitions,
succeeding David Lloyd-George, re
cently appointed secretary for war.
Thomas McKlnnon Wood, secretary
for Scotland at present, is named to
succeed Mr. Montagu as financial
secretary of the treasury and is also
named chancellor of the Duchy of
Lancaster.
The Hon. Harold J. Tennant, par
liamentary under secretary for war
under the late Earl Kitchener, is ap
pointed secretary for Scotland. The
selection of Lord Derby to take the
place of Mr. Tennant In the war of
fice already had been announced.
Premier Asqulth, it is officially an
nounced, has invited Lord Cur ton of
Hedleston to become a permanent
member of the war committee.

Encamp July 16-26

Eugene, Or. July 10. Orders have
been Issued by Colonel C. C. Hammond,
commanding the coast artillery corps,
of the O. N. G., for the annual encamp
ment at Fort Stevens July 18 to 26.
A special train will be provided by
the Southern Pacific for. the sixth com
oany at Cottage Grove and the head
quarters staff and second and third
companies at Eugene, wnue toe com
panics at Albany, Ashland, Medford
and Roseburg will proceed to Portland
on the regular trains. At Portland
they will be joined by the eighth com
pany and the entire corps will leave
that city on a- special train at 10:3 J
a. m. July 16. :
First Lieutenant T. B. Harris, of the
staff, located at Eugene, with one elec
trician, sergeant first class, one non
commissioned officer and five privates
each from the second and third com-

Home From Two North
ern Tournaments,

year -old golfer of the Waverley Coun
try club, who captured the Pot.'atch
tournament championship last wee at
Seattle, returned home . yesterday, to
gether with Rudolph Wilhelm of the
Portland Golf club, Mrs. Wilholm and
R. C. F. Astbury.
Watson and Wilhelm brought hcrrfe
a load of trophies, the former winning
six and Wilhelm five. In the North
west tourney at Spokane, Watson won
four trophies, and at Seattle, in addi
tion to winning the championship, he
won the mixed foursomes with Mrs.
Robert Wilson.
Wilhelm won the northwest open
championship. In the Potlatch tourney
he won the low amateur qualifying
score, was third in the open, won the
low gross in the men's handicap and
bad the best score against bogey.
Wilhelm played his semi-final match
in the directors' cup tournament at the
Portland Golf club yesterday, defeat
ing A. Dickson, 6 up and 4. He plays
John Hotchklss in the finals".
