A bank of water 15 feet high weeping down McDonald can yon crushed the home of Mrs. M. C. McCabe, Si years old, Saturday night, drowning her and her infant child. Mrs. McCabe. with her three chil dren, was In the house at the time and had no warning of the approach of the flood waters caused by a cloudburst over the upper Bitter creek canyon, 43 miles southwest of Pendleton. The other two children were rescued by men at the house. The flood caused, considerable damage to the alfalfa crop of Hog Hollow. Mrs. McCabe was a native of Ireland, coming to Umatilla county 14 years ago. Her hus band, a cattleman, was In Heppner at the time of the disaster. Mrs. McCabe's body was re covered Sunday morning fjve miles down the canyon from her home. The body of the baby was also1, recovered. There was a light frost on the 10th, tnunder storms on the 17th and 27th and a destructive hall storm in some por- tlons of Lane county on the 27th.
