Trotter The fourth annual camp meeting of the Pentecostal Assembly mission, 227 Ankeny street, will open Sunday. July 9 in the grove that lies between Creston and Anabel stations, on the Mount Scott line. This will make the third successive season that the mis- ion has had its camp meeting on these grounds. The camp will consist of one big tabernacle tent, a large prayer tent nd it Is expected that about 60 families will camp on the grounds. Meetings will be held in the after- oon and evening and all day Sunday. The afternoon meetings will be in the nature of study classes. During the past year the mission has sent out its members and started missions In many of the towns near Portland and it is expected that several will at tend the meetings from these places. Rev. Will C. Trotter, the pastor. said: "The aim and object of this camp meeting Is the saving- of sin ners, getting people through to the baptism of the Holy Ghost and the sick ' face to face with the healer of all sickness,','.. July 4 the assembly are pjannlng a big .day. The -members expect to come In the morning and raise the big tabernacle and at noon sit down to a not-lot picnic dinner and later in the day have an old fashioned testimony service. Sunday School Will Hold Excursion The East Side Baptist Sunday school will hold an excursion on the steamer Undine July 4. The boat will leave the Washington street dock at 8:15 ir. the morning and will be gone all day. The trip will be up the Columbia river and will take In all the scenic points. The boat will land the parHy on the Washington side of the river near the locks, where they will spend two hours enjoying a' picnic dinner. The boat will accommodate 325.. people and the fare wlill be Jl, with half fare for children. The officers of the Sunday school are giving1 this trip to help raise a part of the $300 they have promised to give toward the erection of a Sun day school annex on the church. The trustees of the church are planning to build an annex on the church 15 feet by 70 feet and divide this up into five or lx classrooms. At pres ent the school has outgrown the ac commodations of the church room, the Christian Endeavor room and one class room in the basement. Eesignation of Rev, Marcotte Accepted At a meeting of the Congregation held Thursday evening, the resignation of Rev. Henry Marcotte was accepted. It will take effect the first Sunday in September. Rev. Marcotte will take the pastorate of the Second Presbyterian church at Kansas City, Mo. A successor for Rev. Marcotte was authorized -to be secured by the church session. BAPTIST UNION The president of the Willamette as sociation will have charge of a special summer course of the Christian Work era' Training school at the Central It brary every, Monday evening at 7:30 o'clock. The New Testament will be the aubject and the text book of the course. The meetings are open to the public. R. Albin Nelson, president of tht First Swedish church union, was pre sented with a gold watch by the young people of the church upon his depart ure for Iowa a few days ago. Alfred jonnson wui now act as president ol the union. Following is a synopsis Of the work done by the Portland union up to its discontinuance ' June 23, according to reports read at the rally at St, Johns church. By vote of the union the Portland union Incorporated itself with the Wil lamette association and henceforth will be known by that name. -) The report of the recording secre tary showed that nine baslness meet ings had been held during the year and four rallies. The average attend ance at the rallies was over 200. The report of the corresponding secretary shows that quite a number of bulletins have been distributed during the year. The report of the president shows that the union conducted an Institution in the White Temple in February, a union praise servtce on Easter, held a reception for a returned missionary in the Italian church and a prayer meet ing on Thanksgiving morning. Dr. James A. White, general secretary 01 the B. Y. P. "U. of America, was In Portland during the year and spoke at a rally given in his honor. On Decoration day the union held their annual picnic, at Gladstone park. The report also shows a society organised at Tabernacle Baptist church. The Spokane convention will be held July 13 to 16. Many Oregon people are planning to attend. On October 17 the state convention win be held at Salem. On November SO the unions will hold Thanksgiving breakfasts. Rev. E. A. Leonard Honored. At the recent meeting of the North ern Baptist "convention. Rev. E. A. Leonard of Gresham was honored in view of the fact that he had completed 10 years in the active ministry. Warm congratulations were wired to "him. ftev. Dr. lacob Kratt of the First Ger man Baptist church at Fourth and Mill streets, completed 20 years hj pastor last Sunday. Dr. Kratt came to Portland directly from the Rocn ester Baptist Theological Seminary, where he graduated in the year 189. On arriving he found a small mem bership and an indebtedness on the building of $2500. This debt has been paid, and a new .building has been erected and paid for. costing: S23.00. and the membership of the church has increased from 84 to 402. Also the Second and Third German Baptist churches of this city were organized from members dismissed from the First church for that purpose. Dr. Kratt han baptized 450 persons, seven of whom are now in the min istry and one preparing tpr the min istry, and two ladies have gone out as missionaries to the foreign field. Last Sunday was a great day with the church. The members commemo rated the event by raising J1800 to ward the endowment of McMinnvlUe college. L'nity and progress have been a marked feature of this church from the beginning of his pastorate, and few pastors are held in as high esteem as is Dr. Kratt. Dr. Woods at White Temple. At the White Temple at 11 a. m.. Dr. K. A. Woo will preach, taking for his theme "The Gospel of Christ A Message of Good Cheer." Dr. Woods Is well known tn Port land, having been the successful pas tor of the First Baptist church of Cleveland, Ohio, and also of the First Baptist church in San Francisco, and has been connected with the educa tional work of the denomination, as well. The Temple quartet will sing "There Is Rest." by Havens, and the offertory solo will be sung by Milton Runyan. In the evening the quartet will ren der the anthem 'God Is Love," by Shelly, and Miss Emma Kllppel will slug "Still, Still With Thee." Patriotic Services In All Churches The movement for patrotic services lr the churches tomorrow, suggested by the Fourth of July committee, has become almost 'universal. In nearly every church In the city patriotism will be the subject of the sermon at either the morning or evening session. In some congregations the entire day Is given over to the love of country. Many of the churches are appropri ately decorated and extensive services ar to be held Programs have been an nounced including patriotic sermons and songs. The duty of the individual to the nation will be discussed. Heretofore, only the contemplation of the past has been included in the celebration on tha Fourth. This year attempt is being made to deal wMli the present and f u ture as well. Discussion of the re- sponsibilities of citizenship will be a i icature of many of the sermons. The trouble between Mexico and thl country serves to accentuate the need of patriotism and will add zest to the movement tomorrow. Rev. Marcotte Returns. Rev. Henry Marcotte, pastor of Westminster church, who has been conducting a Bible study during the week at a conference of Y. W. c. A. secretaries of Oregon, Washington and Idaho at Seabeck, Wash., will return to his pulpit Sunday. A patriotic serv ice is planned for Sunday morning. Dr. Haynes to Speak.
