P.)' pr-sid-nt Alexander Howatt of the Kansas Miners' union, was today vindi cated of the charge that he had be trayed the miners in wage conferences, when a Jury returned a verdict In his favor against Joseph H. Hazen, al leged go-between, for 87000. How ever, the Jury also returned a verdict in favor of Charles Keith and the Central Coal & Coke company. Howatt had sued Hazen and several other op erators for slander, asking $60,000 damages. He charged that Keith and other members of the Southwestern Interstate Coal Operators' association had spread reports that he and Fred Holt, former secretary of the Arkan sas and Oklahoma miners, had been given $21,000 to arrange the 1910 and 1912 wage contracts favorable to the operators.
