THE OREGON DAILY JOURNAL,, PORTLAND, WEDNESDAY," MARCH V 29, 1816. aUSON ENCAMPMENT TAKES AN JJPTION NEXT TO SAMARITAN'S LOIS Prospects of Odd Fellows Building at Early Date Promise to Materialize. f ONE STRUCTURE FOR ALL FUs . C6nttmpHtt Tatting Vp Oat Tempi That "Would Cover fir Prospects of the Odd Fellows of- he f.clty, at an early date, building- a mod- 'ern structure to meet their Joint rias. 10 supplant tne out or asm P , building? at First and Alder streets, which they now occupy, promise early materialization. Ellison encampment, I. O. O. F., has i secured an option on the lot at Tenth and Salmon streets, adjoining the lots recently purchased by Samaritan lodge, with the Intention, it is said, of erecting; a structure that can be used to advantage by both, organizations. I. The option of the Ellison encampment f Is said to be held at $15,000. I Two plan are In contemplation for I the Improvement. One calls for a four story structure, the other for a f six story building. Samaritan lodge bought its holdings over a year ago. .after first trying to interest a num iber of other lodges to matte a Joint Pbulldlng affair with thenf. At first I tber were unsuccessful. The move 1 made by Ellison encampment, it is ?,thought, will induce other lodges to yjoln in the new building plan and make th structure one which will 5 serve the needs of the lodges for many ' years to come for all the downtown - lodges and encampments. The present structure now occupieJ ' by Ellison encampment was erected r 60 years ago. It cannot be Improved to further advantage, and It is now en tirely inadequate to the purposes for which it is needed. pUILDERS TO HOLD MEETING i Conditions of Industry Will Be p Discussed at Smoker. C A smoker will be held on Friday evenlna- in their rooms in the Wor- .the Builders' Exchange. General eo.v - dltions of the building Industry will be discussed, especially In relation : to proposed ehanges" in the building code and the activities of the Apart tment House Owners' association. tThere is & feeling on the part of 'many members of the exchange that j'tho - Apartment House Owners' assocl- Jiyon IS lOTCing- xno issue oi rssirain in new aevelopments along the build Ing line to such an extent that many new .projects under way, so far as .plans were concerned, have been stopped when they reached the point where , the operations had to be .financed. On this account building activity is at a much lower ebb than Jt need be at the present time, it is asserted. On the other hand, the members of the Apartment House Owners' assocla .tion disclaim any disposition to re strict or discourage new building prop ositions to an- extent greater than ab solutely necessary to the mutual wel fare of the builders, the owners and the community interests. Love Badly Needed Power Bike and He Got It, Too Pronto Mr. McCollough of 69 North Twenty-third Btreet, had no use for his motorcycle. He bo decided after he had ridden the machine about 1500 miles and had gone to heavy expense In fitting it up with the lat est wrinkles for the two wheeled power wagons. It carried a speedometer, elec tric lights, and a-tandem at tachment. Moreover lt cost him $350 and for speed was a "streak." On the other hand William Love had an acute need for Just that sort of: a gasoline bike. . He wanted one badly and was just waiting to snap up a good offer. But of course McCollough didn't know that Love, and many like him was - In the market when he advertised his machine for sale in The Jour nal want ad columns. But he soon learned. Love with about $225 in gold jingling In his jeans, saw the ad. grabbed a car and eoon was owner of the McCollough vehicle. The ad had satisfied two men. It's true that lt pays to advertise!
