J iiQt - - - . - , CHURCHES TO BEGIN AN EVERY1 MEMBER Effort Will Be Made "to Get 4 Non-Attendants to Affili ate With Some Society, Beginning tomorrow the "Every Member" campaign of the Portland protestant churches will begin. Lists of names of church members from the east who have Joined no local church, non-church goers, chil dren of Sunday school agei and parents of Sunday school children have been prepared, and these people will . be visited by church members. They will receive letters from members and pastors and a thorough follow-up policy will be adopted. Easter Sunday has appealed to a number of churches as a good time to place as the end of the campaign and efforts will be made to make the coming Easter a memorable one from the number of professions made. In a thorough manner the churches have made the census of Portland quietly during the past few weeks There has been little overlapping of work on the. census by the differing denomination members working. The object has been to increase; first, church membership and attendance: second, to increase church membership and attendance in the worker's own church. The increased religious efforts to "be made during the approaching Len ten season among the protestant and evangelical churches may be traced largely to the influence left by the recent Laymen's Missionary Move ment convention. The Presbyterian church is the only church that has taken up the every member canvass and cam paign as a united body. The other churches are working individually. At a luncheon for Presbyterian ministers t.t the T. M. C. A. at 12:15 Tuesday, Dr. John H. Boyd, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will make an address on "The Laymen's Task." This is the first of a series of talks to be given by Dr. Boyd to the laymen. The men constituting the committee of 100 of the First Congregational church who expect to take an active part xi the every member canvass next Sunday afternoon, were enter tained at dinner by the members of the church last Monday evening in the church parlors. Following the dinner the finances of the church were gone into thoroughly. E. L. Thompson presided. Judge H.
