Durimr th past - week enthusiasm has continued to grow in support of the Laymen's . Missionary Movement con vention .to , be held in Portland Febru ary 13 to It inclusive, and from the headquarters of the committees in charge comes the word that registra tions of delegates for the week are equal to that at St. Paul where similar weather conditions prevailed. ' , The executive committee, with K. L. Thompson as chairman, has been holding morning meetings to plan work for the daylight hours in canvassing the city in the registration work and because of the storm making- it . im possible to do much of the work afoot the telephones Were resorted to. Splendid interest is reported from various portions of the state, and it 'is assured . that large delegations of men will come in from Willamette valley and southwestern Washington points. -Meetings have been held during the week at Hood River, McMinnviUe. Newberg and Vancouver. There has never been a meeting in the northwest that has brought tha men of the church and the different denominations in isuch close harmony as has the convention that is being worked for by all the evangelical or ganisations," said W. H. Lewis, chair man of the registration committee. "And It will be a meeting that wiU be fraught with tremendous spiritual re sults. "It could not be otherwise when such Inspired speakers are to be heard as are listed to appear at the sessions of the convention. They are men like Henry H., Kelsey of the Congregational denomination, and a commanding per sonality. He will - be found ' to have something for every man to hear, and although, the storm of. ths week has kept the registration below the mark we had set for the six days, we are convinced that . the coming : of., fair weather and ths cleaning of the streets will mean that the total of delegates will jump to enormous figures. The effort is being made to have Portland's convention exceed that of Seattle, Ta coma or Spokane, and it can be done through i every churchman doing his duty." J -; Tragedies of Esther . To Be General Topic The four tragedies of the book of Bather-will be taken as th subiecta' of a series of sermons which will be de- livered, beginning tomorrow night.' by Rev. W. O.
