White, adjutant general of the Ore gon National guard, has returned from an Inspection trip in southern Oregon, where he was accompanied by Colonel Creed Haymond of Eugene and Cap tain Collins of the United States army. Kraemer has offered. through the Oregon Humane society, of which he is a trustee, caah prizes as gregating S35 to the high school stu dents for the beet essays on the sub ject of how to best arrive at peace in the world's conflict and to avoid inter national cruelty. Judge Kraemer has been connected with the Oregon Hu mane society for a great number of years, and has several times offered prizes of this character to the schools rnnsral of Captain Bulger. Funeral of Captain Thomas J. Bulger, the aged ship builder, who died - in this city Wednesday, will take place to morrow morning1 at 9 o'clock from St. Lawrence church. Third arid Sherman streets. Interment will be in River view cemetery. Captain Bulger was born in St. Johns, New Foundland, in 1827,- and came to Oregon in 1S59. 1840, and had-lived for sv number of years at Ocean Parte Mrs. 'F. p. Browning, of Newberg, ls a daughter. Henry Clews, the noted New York banker, has Just donated 8500 to Willamette university to be used in .the establishment of a library alcove in memory of the late Dr. John H. Cole man. who served as president of the university from 1903 to 1907. The bequest was secured through the efforts of Dr. Carl G. Doney. who knew of the personal friendship which existed between Mr. Clews and Dr. Coleman. At a recent meeting of the board of control, the trustees decided to. in crease the fund now available to 82500 that the memorial may be made more bubstantlaL Plans to secure this amount have been initiated.
