The Christmas festival and moving picture show given by Company II last night in the Armory ball room was highly enjoyed by officers and members. Immediately after drill tne moving pictures of the National Guard of Oregon in action brought repeated applause from the audience. A short musical and literary propram followed. Captain Leo J. A." Pironi acted as a deputy of Santa Claus and handed out dolls and toys to the various members of the company, as though they were children. A supper followed. The teach ers of Lincoln high school presented Captain Pironi with a fine set of toilet brushes in appreciation of his serv ices in drilling them for military com petition some weeks ago. KorplU.1 Corps Drills. The hospital corps of the Third regiment last night held a litter drill under KIrfct Sergeant Amundsun. This body of men 8 secured from college students and Instructors, by preference, and is a valuable adjunct to a prac tical education for both civil and pro fessional men. The four commissioned officers are all physicians and the 16 enlisted men are given. exceptional op portunities for Instruction from them. The entire corps is giving- its time and service out of a patriotic desire to serve the country. Company 2. Wins. Last Thursday night the basketball team of Company B won by a acore of 14 to 9 over Company C Basket ball teams are practicing at the Ar mory to keep Company E from winning any more victories this winter. Colonel Martin Is Back. Colonel Charles H. Martin. I'. S. A., formerly commander of the Third regi ment, O. N". i.. Is In Portland for a few days, having returned from active duty on the Mexican frontier. The moving picture reels of the Ore gon National Guard and the Oregon Naval Militia in field maneuvers, rif'.e practice, and practical work, will be viewed by the companies B and K tonight in the Armory ball room. Both the Third Regiment band and the Coast Artillery band had a good attendance last night at th Armory. These bands are developing some good musicians among the young men of Portland, and the instruction is free. The annual military tournament will be given by the Oregon National guard at Multnomah county armory. Tenth and Couch streets, at 8 o'clock on the nights of January 1.', 13 and 14. The organizations participating will In clude headquarters company, maohlne gun company, Company B, Company C, Company D, Company E. Company F. Company H, Third Infantry, Battery A, field artillery, Troop A', cavalry; Eighth company coast artillery and the Oregon Naval militia. The pro gram will include wall scaling, silenH manual, bayonet exercise, shelter tent pitching, - drill in double time.
